Nigeria’s representatives in the Round of 32 stages of the CAF Champions League Enugu Rangers failed to progress to the group stages of the competition on Sunday despite their 2-1 win against Zamalek in the second leg game at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Nigeria Professional Football League champions were defeated 4-1 in the first leg last week at the Military Stadium, Cairo, therefore crashing out 5-3 on aggregate.
Tope Olusesi scored the first goal of the evening in the 45th minute after the Flying Antelopes piled the pressure on the North Africans early in the game.
Basan Morsi however restored parity for the Egyptians in the 71st minute and Godwin Aguda then made it 2-1 for Enugu Rangers.
The game petered out without the Nigerian side scoring more goals.
Enugu Rangers will now drop to the play-offs for the CAF Confederation Cup where they will hope to reach the group stage of the second-tier CAF club competition.
Nigeria’s second representatives Rivers United who also lost their second leg game against Sudan’s Al-Merreikh will play for a place in the group stages of the Confederation Cup.
