REVEALED: How Super Eagles Will Line Up Vs Poland Tonight

By Johnny Edward:

Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and Amkar Perm defender Bryan Idowu will make their first starts for the Super Eagles later tonight against Poland in a friendly billed for the Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The match kicks off at 8.45pm Nigerian time.

Uzoho who has kept 12 clean sheets this season in the third-tier of the Spanish League for Deportivo La Coruna’s second team Deportivo Fabril, has got the nod ahead of Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who arrived in camp late for the game.

The friendly will be the 19-year-old’s second appearance for the three-time African champions after he came on during the 4-2 win over Argentina in November.

Idowu, is preferred to Elderson Echiejile and Ola Aina for the left-back spot.

The 25-year-old Idowu made a scoring debut for Nigeria in their 4-2 win over Argentina in November.

Bursaspor right-back Shehu Abdulahi keeps his place in the starting line-up like Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong in the team’s central defence.

In midfield, stand-in captain Ogenyi Onazi and Wilfred Ndidi will provide cover for the defence line.

Kelechi Iheanacho will start in the No.10 role while Odion Ighalo will lead the lines to be flanked by Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi.

How Eagles will play vs Poland:

Uzoho

Abdulahi, Ekong, Balogun, Idowu

Ndidi, Onazi

Iheanacho, Moses, Iwobi

Ighalo.

Not bad at all, Elderson should watch from the bench and learn a bit. Obi could common on for Iheanacho. This coach knows his onions well. Kudos!

  • I prefer Joel Obi and Tyron Ebuhei but the coach knows better. Maybe cos of d latter injury anyway, all the best to them

This the best selection for the team. Bravo Mr Rohr. I wish the SE best of luck.

  • Gideon. S 8 months ago

@tayo, you made a point but I wish to see both early in second-half also Musa should come in and run on them.
I wish them all d best!

May God help us. Our goalkeeper plays in the THIRD-TIER of the Spanish League.

    • Paschal 8 months ago

Hahahaha well its a cause for concern but when you remember that Ikeme was in the English second division you see that the league doesnt really matter. If the former coach of Uzoho was not sacked maybe by now he will be a regular for the first team in la liga. It also depends on the coaches liking your face.

    My Wroclaw Preview!

The hypes for tonight’s table top fixture with Poland has reached a feverish crescendo, paving way for our gladiators to show us their level of readiness to fight for a spot on the plane to Russia.
Attention should be on Gernot Rohr.
We have held him very highly as our Master Chess tactician and now is the time to prove us right, and assure Nigerians that beating Argentina was no fluke.
He should be able to pull out the chestnuts from the fire with his formation, tactics and the available players tonight.
His starting line up is perfect & tactical.
Winning tonight, realistically, should not be the primary target of this clash, rather a win for SE should be a bonus.
Essentially, Nigerians should be looking out for the state of readiness of the team. The quality of individual contribution & team cohesion, the telepathy, synergy & bonding, ability to understand & execute the gaffers tactics.
We want to see tactical players-movement on and off the ball. This will go down to elimination by substitution.
One aspect, though shall not go unnoticed, where a player clearly falls below the expected standard of the game.
This is a test match for those fighting to earn a WC shirt. Heads will start rolling after this & the next encounter.
Expectedly, i foresee a horde of spies squatting in the cold windy-night in Wroclaw, jotting down notes as they can possibly make on the Super Eagles players & team tactics.
The chickens are home to roost, but Rohr, it seems is still holding to himself some valued cards close to his chest.
Certainly the SE squad as constituted now is a work-in-progress, we might have 1 or 2 additions before the WC event.
But wit the options available to GR, I want to see how the SE defense will hold out tonight against an attack minded polish team wit the highest number of goals in the European qualifying series.
Towering home boy, 6′ 5″ Stephen Eze might have his chance tonight. Will he take it, or blow it?
Our backline seems strong enough on paper to put up a great show in the air against Polish lethal finisher, Robert Lewandowski.
The Bayern Munich prized asset, 100 goals in 121 matches for Bayern since 2014, is expected to lead the attacking line against the SE. Uzohor will be well tested tonight against one of the world’s renowned hitmen.
The Guinness World Records four-time record man is an enigma of some sort; a proven & consistent goals machine. Six times Poland’s footballer of the Year.
Polish Captain, top 9 for club and country, Lewandowski is a conjurer of goals.
He is as dangerous in the air as he is with both feet on the ground, and particularly with his back against the goal. Strong, fast, visionary & a constant threat in the box. He is top quality.
He drilled 5 goals in 9mins, coming on as a super-sub in a 5-1 win over Wolfsburg. He holds the fastest hatrick in the bundesliga history; 3 goals in four minutes. His 10 goals in three games in one week in European CL is still getting rave reviews. Give him a chance, and he takes 3.
This is the guy SE defense will be hoping to put in the freezer tonight.
Our keeper’s hands will be full, I tell u.
Will Uzohor convince his fans that he is the MAN, or will he fail the test?
It’s held in narrow circles that a Keeper is as good as his defensive cover. Not true!
If true then, it makes mockery of the concept of keepers’ shutouts & one-on-one assessments.
At 6′ 5″, 19 years old Francis Uzohor has a towering & intimidating goal presence.
Nigerians want to see his best showing tonight.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa, 6’1″ is the other available keeper alternative.
Make no mistakes, the SE rear shall be stretched to breaking limits tonight by the Poles’ attacking wizardry on current form.
It will be a test of nerves, experience, presence of mind & grit.
This is good for Nigeria; it will expose some of our lapses in attack and defence lines. Rohr will be jotting down notes too.
The poles are playing at home & will play to win this one.
The SE German machine, Leon Balogun, 6’3″ has been dogged wit fitness concerns lately and a constant cause of worry for everyone, but Troost-Ekong, 6’3″ and reliable Nantes man, Chidoze Awaziem, 6’3″ should provide a good option for the backline when called upon in tonight’s duel.
Zenit St. Petersbourg’s prospect, Kenneth Omeruo, 6’1″ is yet to give a good account of himself and this might just be his last.
Nigerians love the fact that GR has looked the way of young, strong & fast defenders for listing.
Hull City Aina, 5’9″, Shehu, 5’7″ & Bryan Idowu, 5’11” may not have the advantage of being six footer as Tyrone Ebuehi, 6’1″ but are equally effective going forward and would need to convince the gaffer they deserve to be on the boat too.
Tough guy, Uche Henry Agbo, 6’2″ Super Eagles defensive midfielder cum central defender is the team’s hatchet man. The Standard Liege top dog is a reliable cover, versatile and hard as nail, might claim his chance tonight with a strong showing and book his flight to Russia.
This is the acid test MATCH for Nigeria!
Under performing Odion Ighalo is an on and off goal shy player. He is the SE first choice top 9.
    He is well known.
I dont see him making the flight to Russia, even if he scored a thousand goals in this duel.
He doesn’t look like the guy with the right credentials.
    Inconsistency is his bane.
Nigerians should be prepared for a nervy game in the absence of SE mercurial & inspirational Captain, Mikel Obi.
I predict a very difficult match for the Super Eagles. Anything can happen, though.
However, a narrow win for GR’s men should be a celebrated result they must dig deep to earn, and a wallop is not a probable consideration under Wroclaw’s freezing weather condition.
Many think the SE might not nick this one, but a tough call for them, only if there is a magic man upfront which, unfortunately SE front men, particularly our top 9 doesn’t represent.
This is a good test anyway.
    1-0 Either way (My position).
    Good luck, SE.
    Godbless Nigeria.

    • Willie 8 months ago

Good analysis Kingmaker. This match is an acid test for those who wish and are eager to make it to Russia 2018. We all need to make our notes as the match kicks off. Winning the match is not the purpose, but if it happens with tactical and fluent play so be it. I will be looking out for COHESION, STAMINA, BONDING, ATTACKING PROWESS and DEFENCESIVE CAPABILITIES in each fielded SE player and team play. Our captain’s absence is not a good sign for a World Cup friendly with a side like Poland that parades a lethal finisher like Lewandowsky. John Mikel OBI must be told to buckle up. GR and his team must realize that Nigeria is not going to Russian 2018 to make up the number. This is our 5th WC participation and we should get to the last 4 standing to show that we can play soccer. Good luck GR & Team. I predict a score Draw.

  • Odeh Chris 8 months ago

    Nice selection Good luck #supereagle.

  • Rohr obviously followed up on his observation (plus fan’s views) and is starting Uzoho and Idowu. But why leave out Tyron Ebuehi in starting 11. Shehu is good, but I’ll pick Tyrone ahead of him anytime. Infact, he’s on the list of 4 of my favorite SE players that I think will never fail to sparkle in any match, alongside Victor Moses, Idowu Brian, Ndidi Wilfred. The Others seem to have their on and off days.

    • Nwaebonyi 8 months ago

Tyronne Ebuehi is a player i love so much but the guy is not fully fit, i guess thats why he was left of the starting 11

  • I always admire your comment but i hate it whenever you talk bad about Ighalo or try to bring him down just because GR did not call up your Cyril Dessers. That Nonsense. And whoever told you that IGHALO is not going to be on the plane to Russia is presently under the Influence of Cocaine

  • I mean @Kingmaker

    • Bryt oni 8 months ago

That guy is not even a regular in his club Utrecht. Always come on 10mins to go…. abeg no place 4 dat guy for this team. Sorry Cyril dessers. There are close to six top player more better than him. Kalu. Bonaventure. Sadiq umar. Simy. Osimhen. Aaron Samuel.kayode.odey. Check am na….

  • H-Man 8 months ago

@Kingmaker, this is perhaps one of the best analytical reviews I have read from u since I started reading ur posts. keep it up. Kudos!
I agree with your point on the killer instincts of Robert Lewandowski, but Super Eagles have the potentials to freeze him out and lock down the polish threat in this game.
Not many people like frank talk for sentimental reasons, bcos some have their friends in the team and may take it personal.
@Lloyd, there is nothing personal about the analysis.
Instead of fighting with his opinion & the man try and present yours as well, by that we all can judge and learn. It is called constructive criticism. No need to insult anyone here.
Come to think of it, is Ighalo a profilic goal scorer? Of course, he is not.

  • bobbyJ 8 months ago

@Kudos to the KING. Kingmaker u good die..
    This is vintage report!
Abeg send me ur account details make I wire u some cash to buy a bottle of Wine.
    Nigeria must win sha.. 1-0.

  • It is just a friendly, there is no meaning for it.it is meant to test players, and sorry to burst your bubble ighalo is making that world cup team.even if he is not scoring he has a good work rate.so u guys should let him be.

  • Josleck 8 months ago

This is the starting 11 for world cup, Mikel will take his place and iheanacho will be the super sub. As for those questioning Ighalo proficiency, well he may not be a prolific goal scorer but he is the best we can offer for now

  • KABRUK BISALLA 8 months ago

MAY ALMIGTHTY GOD WOULD GAVE SUPER EAGLE DEFEND OVER POLAND

Good luck to super eagles, the lineup is very good for a start,i predict 3_1

  • Edoman of New Jersey, USA. 8 months ago

l agreed with the line-up. Lets see what happens

  • Good write up but I disagree with u on Ighalo. He is way better than your Dresser. infancy that dresser can not make d team ahead of him no matter what you do.

  • we are good to go #soareagles

  • What a great analysis from kingmaker, your objective and constructive analysis is quite plausible and i must commend you for a job well done.
However, I’m really impressed with the aforementioned lineup, it shows that the gaffer is serious with the business ahead and he’s willing to improve his resumes with the job of Nigerian senior national team. The above lineup is the best that Nigeria can offer at the moment when considering the available players and other circumstances. Just like i would have love to see Ebuehi in the lineup but his omission from the lineup is well understandable because report had it that he was not fully fit for this game, and he made it to the team camp on the back of the team technical crew demand for his present so that his injury can be properly accessed by the medical team of the NT. Another role that’s giving me major concern is the role of the team captain, in the last two years or thereabout SE have struggled to cope in the absence of their talisman and i can’t wait to see how the team would cope in his absence against Poland. The void left by his unavailability for this game is very wide and if there is one player that can do the job then the player must be Iheanacho. I know many fans are clamouring for the inclusion of Joel Obi in the lineup and they believe that Joel would be a read made replacement for the team captain but many failed to realised that Joel has been absent from the team for more than two years due to persistent injuries, so his incorporation into the team will be done steadily. I wish the team best of luck and i hope the best team win the contest. Though as a patriotic Nigerian it is my utmost wish that SE defeat the Polish NT at their backyard because victory in today’s match will do the SE of Nigeria more good than harm, it will increase the level of their confidence going to the Mundial. I wish the SE of Nigeria best of luck. Go eagle…..

  • Victor Onyeanum 8 months ago

Kingmaker, your analysis is beautiful and almost faultless but the fact that you stated that Ighalo will never make the trip to Russia as a SE player even if he scores a thousand goals in tonight’s match smacks of either subjectivity or vested interest or both. How can anybody take you seriously? I would have completely aligned myself with you if you had not drawn that unfortunate conclusion.

    • luomo 8 months ago

which I could like this comment a thousand times..cos u said exactly my mind @victor

Dat was a luvly write up anyway.bt i totaly disagree wit u on ighalo.can u giv me a beta striker d super hav nw.let’s leave odion alone,an focus on hw d se wil win d match.gudluck eagles.

  • Ogu 4 4 2 8 months ago

There was a day real Madrid lost to a lone own goal scored by c.Ronaldo…so this match can’t tell it all…3 or 4 matches should be enough to be considered the litmus test.

  • H-man 8 months ago

    Hahahaha!
There is no debate over Odion Ighalo’s profligacy in front of goal as some comments pointed out.
Nigerians with little knowledge of football are easily twisted in their eagerness to make a case for a dead horse. Once they can’t they are agitated.
Ighalo is an inconsistent striker and this is no news. Check up the statistics; the man rarely score goals and this is the man you are making hollow excuses for.
I know Ighalo, I respect & like him as a person, but it ends there. I personally will love to see him make the squad, if he has improved, and can outscore other contenders for his position.
Our interest is for the general good of the team excluding the way we may feel about this gentle and loveable player.
Nobody is witch hunting any player but we are saying, let the very best Nigerians be selected, no matter their place of birth or origin.
It will amount to putting logic on its head to play an inconsistent striker who rarely score goals instead of another who scores profusely.
Let us be more concerned about Nigeria rather than individual gratification.
    @kingmaker, thumbs up..

  • A potent #9 is short suply if not scarce right now in nigerian market.
Even in CHAN in Morocco the same problem.
What about Fernando Adi of Portland Timbers?
He just might become the much needed magic for the SE.
By all means we need to try out other options.
Nevertheless, IGHALO will go to Rusia.
