Rivers United captain, Festus Austin, has disclosed that their Tuesday's Group A opponents in the CAF Confederation Cup, Uganda's KCCA, were not the toughest among the opponents the Pride of Rivers have faced so far, Completesportsnigeria.
The Port Harcourt side defeated 10-man KCCA of Uganda 2-1 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Tuesday with goals scored by Bernard Ovoke and Fredrick Obomate, while Geoffrey Serunkuma scored the hosts’ lone goal.
Earlier in their campaign, Rivers United defeated Moroccan club FUS Rabat 1-0 on May 24 2017 in their second Group A match.
Austin told Completesportsnig
"The match against KCCA was not easy, but we are happy to have secured the win that mattered most," the defender whose deflection gifted the Ugandans a goal in the first leg that ended 3-1 against the Nigerians told Completesportsnigeria.com
"KCCA have a good team, but they did not give us the kind of trouble that FUT Rabat gave us.
"We found the Moroccans more difficult because they were good, both defensively and in their attacking play, perhaps because of the style of play that is similar to the Europeans.
"We have six points now in the group and the next objective is to get at least a win in our remaining away matches."
Stanley Eguma's team lost their first game away at Tunisian side, Club Africain 3-1, but got their CAF Confederation Cup run back on track with a 1-0 win at home against FUS Rabat. Emeka Atuloma scored in the 72nd-minute to give Rivers United all the three points.
Rivers United are looking to finish in the top two of Group A, and qualify for the semi-finals of the competition which no Nigerian club has won in its present format.
