Rivers United captain, Festus Austin, insists the Port Harcourt side must give their all in their final Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game against Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Sunday and hope a miracle happens in their favour to at least earn a CAF Champions League ticket, reports Completesportsnigeria.
The Port Harcourt based side are currently second on the log, one point adrift leaders Enugu Rangers who could win the title for the first time in 32 years if they snatch a point at home to El Kanemi Warriors on Sunday.
Rivers United are currently second in the NPFL table with 57 points from 35 matches while Akwa are placed 13th.
But Austin says getting a win in the club’s final game away to Akwa United will be crucial to the side’s chances of qualifying for the CAF Champions League next season.
"I want to appeal to the fans to still believe in us," Austin told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"It was disappointing that we failed to beat Abia Warriors in our last match, but we just have to look ahead to our next game (Akwa United).
"I want to however assure the fans that we will go to Uyo (to get a result that will enable us to) qualify for the CAF Champions League.
"The fans must rally round the players as we will fight till the end,” he told Rivers United Media.
