Rivers United Coach, Eguma: 3SC Deserved Their Win

By Johnny Edward:

Rivers United Technical Adviser Stanley Eguma has admitted that his side were below par against the rampaging Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan on Sunday in a Ngerian Professional Football League matchday-6 game in Ibadan, Oyo State reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Eguma who left out six first team players from his starting line up for the game, saw his side stumbled to a 2-1 defeat at the Lekan Salami Stadium Ibadan.

A goal in each half from Jide Apena and Sunday Feleye handed the Oluyole Warriors their second win of the campaign despite Lukman Mohammed first half strike.

In his post match interview, Eguma admitted that his side's defeat was down to the mistakes made by the players.

"The better side won today," Eguma began in an interview with Completesportsnigeria.com in Ibadan.

"3SC are a big side any day, we never underrated them despite the fact that we (Rivers United) have done well in the league so far this season. We came here to win, but unfortunately, we did not.

"They won today.  Congrats to Shooting Stars. We didn't start well, but we later came into the game after conceding the first goal and I think some other blunders in the second half denied us a point from this game.

"The fact that we had gone five matches unbeaten didn't mean we were  invincible. We still need to work hard. Today 3SC raised their game and got the win. It's a big lesson for us,"

Eguma also assured that his team will put up a better display when they take on Jeunne Sportive Saoura in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League next weekend.

"We will do our best in our next game against Jeunne Sportive Saoura of Algeria," he stated.

"We have seen our flaws. We will work on them.. The CAF Champions League is a different ball game, we have to intensify our buildup towards the game and represent the country very well.

"I strongly believe we will come back with a good result.

Eguma's side dropped to eight position in the NPFL log with nine points from six games.

They will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat to 3SC when they host Kano Pillars on match day seven in Port Harcourt.
