Rivers United Midfielder, Igbinoba: We Should Start Scoring Goals

By Adeboye Amosu:

Rivers United midfielder, Esosa Igbinoba insists the team must start converting their scoring chances if they are to do well domestically and in the continent this season, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Pride of Rivers were in total control in Saturday's CAF Champions League preliminary round fixture against AS Real Bamako of Mali at the  Modibo Keita Stadium, Bamako, but failed to turn their dominance into goals with the game ending in a barren draw.

Stanley Eguma's men have also experienced same undoing in the Nigeria Professional Football League where they have scored a paltry five goals in six games.

Igbinoba, who linked up with the Port Harcourt- based side from Nasarawa United during the off-season stated that they must work on their finishing if they are to achieve their objectives.

"We have struggled to score goals since the start of the season, and it's something we must work on," Igbinoba told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"With all due respect to AS Real, we deserved to beat them if not for our failure to convert the chances we created.

"We have big targets this season, both in the NPFL and in the Champions League. To achieve that, we must start converting our chances.

"There is enough quality in our team and if we work on our weaknesses, things will get getter for us."

Rivers United will host AS Real Bamako in the second leg next Sunday at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
