The Super Eagles have had a decent 2017, qualifying for the Russia 2018 World Cup in some style.
Even with the Nigeria Football Federation’s sloppiness leading to a points deduction and putting a blemish on the Super Eagles’ unbeaten World Cup qualifying run, the team still kept their Russia 2018 ticket.
Apart from the blip when they lost at home to South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, the Super Eagles had a remarkable 2017, beating Cameroon and Zambia in World Cup qualifiers and superpowers Argentina in a high-profile friendly.
The Super Eagles squad achieved these feats under the able guidance of Gernot Rohr and a bunch of star players.
Mikel Obi provided leadership and composure in midfield, Ikechukwu Ezenwa competently stepped in for stricken goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, Victor Moses and Simon Moses were incisive and devastating on the flanks, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scored key goals; Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Elderson Echiejile and Shehu Abdullahi formed a wall at the back.
In addition, Ogenyi Onazi and Wilfred Ndidi provided a solid midfield base, while Odion Ighalo led the forward line brilliantly.
All these players and their teammates made 2017 a successful year for the Super Eagles and will all play key roles in Russia in 2018.
