ROAD TO RUSSIA: Who Are Your Three Best Super Eagles Players Of 2017?

The Super Eagles have had a decent 2017, qualifying for the Russia 2018 World Cup in some style.

Even with the Nigeria Football Federation’s sloppiness leading to a points deduction and putting a blemish on the Super Eagles’ unbeaten World Cup qualifying run, the team still kept their Russia 2018 ticket.

Apart from the blip when they lost at home to South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, the Super Eagles had a remarkable 2017, beating Cameroon and Zambia in World Cup qualifiers and superpowers Argentina in a high-profile friendly.

The Super Eagles squad achieved these feats under the able guidance of Gernot Rohr and a bunch of star players.
Mikel Obi provided leadership and composure in midfield, Ikechukwu Ezenwa competently stepped in for stricken goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, Victor Moses and Simon Moses were incisive and devastating on the flanks, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scored key goals; Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Elderson Echiejile and Shehu Abdullahi formed a wall at the back.

In addition, Ogenyi Onazi and Wilfred Ndidi provided a solid midfield base, while Odion Ighalo led the forward line brilliantly.
All these players and their teammates made 2017 a successful year for the Super Eagles and will all play key roles in Russia in 2018.

We all have our favourites based on their performances in the outgoing year. Who are your best three Super Eagles players for 2017 that you also expect to be absolutely important in Russia?

It is time again to have your say as Completesportsnigeria.com continue our Road To Russia World Cup Debate series.

In all ramifications the super eagles have been absolutely super blameless both individually and collectively as a team. Therefore, its probably going to be a bit unfair picking only three players, however my three in their respective positions are: Abdullahi Shehu, Troost Ekong and Mikel Obi

William-Troost Ekong was outstanding as a central defender, Victor Moses was excellent and robustly played on both out flanks, scoring and assisting others to score. Mikel Obi’s patriotism and leadership by example, through which he scored increbiible goals, made a big difference.

  • I thought I made a post on this topic but it seems network made it to disappear or is CS editing the comments now? Anyways, I just feel this kind of topic can implant discord in the camp of the Eagles. We remembered Rashidi Yakini. Almost all the players went against him because of concentrating the praises on him. As far as I am concerned all players are the best. They are all equal. The attackers cannot play the goalkeeping position. The defence can not automatically take over the position if the attackers. They are all united and no one I’d better thsn the others. No one is a Messi or Ronaldo. Only then are a class of their own.

it’ll be very difficult for me to pick the best 3 since they all play in different positions… But if you say the best flop, maybe that one would be easier to point out.
Make Akpeyi no near camp for world cup o

The worst thing that could happen is to allow Akpeyi in goal to face Messi and Arguero. Could that be what Fifa had foreseen while Nigeria was rated and ranked so low ?

  • Dada Samuel 2 months

Mikel Obi for his leadership & veteran role in the midfield.

Victor Moses for his quality play in the attack & utilitarian value.
