Rohr concerned Over Balogun’s Lack Of Game Time At Brighton

By Johnny Edward:
Leon Balogun’s lack of game time at Brighton and Hove Albion in the English Premier League is a source of worry to Super Eagles coach, Gernot, Rohr Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Balogun has had game time hard to come by featuring in only two of Brighton Hove Albion’s first 13 games this season.

Rohr’s concerns merely echo sentiments he often expresses about his key players who don’t feature regularly at their respective clubs.

“On Leon Balogun, we will insist all the time on our player playing regularly because its the same for other players,” Rohr told CSN.

Rohr Wants Ighalo To Leave Relegated Changchun Yatai, For CSL Or European Club

We have some other players like Moses Simon who is not playing at the moment, while others are injured.

“We tell them sometimes that it’s better to play in smaller club than to go to a big club in the Premier League and you don’t play. It’s difficult, but we have discussed this in our conversation especially with Balogun.

“We have this communication in my mother language so it’s easier. We will try to help him in the right way. It’s not about the salary he can get. Of course, it’s a good one I believe, but he has to play.

“He’s 30 now which means that if he’s not playing, it will be more difficult for him to be fit.

“We will speak with these players who have this problem. And when the January transfer window opens we will see.

“Like we did last year with Ahmed Musa. Musa went back to CSKA Moscow. He had contacts with him while he was at Leicester City where he didn’t play.

“He was blocked there and he returned on loan to Moscow. I even went there to see him train. It was a sacrifice for him to have a new beginning at the World Cup.

“We will have good communication with our players but cannot do transfers for them. We can only speak with coaches about them and how they can be good for their team.”

He is not good enough. Up your game bro

  • Thank you for your foresight, Mr Rohr. It’s a real concern for SE players who are perpetual bench warmers in their clubs. Unfortunately some of them are recruited as training materials for the preferred first 11. As a coach, you probably know how the recruitment process visa vis how the player’s prospects for game time in the club he is moving to works. Could you advise our players on the inner workings of the system to safeguard their interest?

No player is worth his salt in the SE if he is a ball watcher in his team. Go ahead and make it a policy not to field such rusty players in the SE please. Let’s put sentiments apart. Balogun should not have been fielded in the SA match. It is unfortunate for Balogun to be frozen in his career at this stage in a futile for advancement in the premier league. He is so committed to the national cause, but we should face reality. I agree he should move to a smaller club in Spain, Turkey, Portugal or even China where he can move those muscles regularly.

    • Only 3 out of 23 are not playing regularly. Ezenwa, Balogun and Moses Simon. Alas two of them, Balogun and Simon are players he rates hence they get Call ups.

If they do not get game time with their clubs our left wing will be Musa and Onyekuru with Iwobi backup, defence will be Troost and Omeruo with Aina if three man and Balogun will be relegated to the bench as the fourth choice.

As per goal keeper, I’m sure in time Akpeyi will overtake Ezenwa and we will find another keeper to compete with those two. Afelokhai or someone else.

The Super Eagles has moved on from being a team of benchwarmers to a team that has players who are regular starters in the top five leagues in the world as well as in the biggest competitions. EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Champions league, Europa league, all have Super Eagles players as regulars

Today’s big match for me is the champions league game  Lokomotiv Moscow (Bryan Idowu left back regular) vs Galatasaray (Henry Onyekuru left wing starter). Both.clubs are champions of their repspective leagues and when the players are fit they are automatic starters. That’s how far we have come in 18 months of Gernot Rohr
