Rohr: Eagles Not On Vacation In Victoria, Must Show Character To Beat Seychelles

Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, has tasked his players to show character in Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against the Pirates of Seychelles, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Nigeria currently occupy the third spot in Group E of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers after losing their opening game to South Africa, and the Franco-German tactician admits the position does not befit the three time African Champions.

“Everyone realizes the importance of this match. We are currently number three in our group and that position does not befit Super Eagles of Nigeria,” Rohr told thenff.com.

“It is not good for us because it is outside the qualification range.

“The players know this. They know that on Saturday they have to show character to put our campaign back on track with a good result.”

Rohr also makes it clear that his boys are not vacationers looking for relaxation.

“We are not here on vacation. We are here for serious business,” he stated.

“We have a young, ambitious team and Nigeria has a better pedigree in the game of football than Seychelles. But we must not underrate them in any way or take things for granted.

“The World Cup is behind us now, but we must allow the lessons we learnt in Russia to make us better and more efficient in our approach.

“The Cup of Nations is the focus now and we must get a good result on Saturday to get our campaign back, and then we can now look ahead with determination to win the remaining matches in our group to qualify easily for the championship.”

Saturday’s Group E tie, which is one of the Matchday 2 fixtures will kick off at 4.30pm Seychelles time (1.30pm Nigerian time) at the 10,000-capacity Stade Linite on Mahe Island in Victoria.

Well, if you said so coach.

“The World Cup is behind us now, but we must allow the lessons we learnt in Russia to make us better and more efficient in our approach”

Saturday is almost here and I wish you the best of luck to win the match sir. I want to see if you are indeed learnt your lessons or not in Russia.

Don’t let this be the issue of you have a young team again ooo. Remember that young team wins this year world cup for France.

By not allowing the standby players to joint the rest of the team must be questionable. Winning the match on Saturday is not enough but the way you are going to handle the match is more important to Nigerians because we want to have a team which everyone of us can be proud of. Even, not only in Africa but at the globe stage. lobatan, period. God bless Nigeria!!!

Joined I mean to say. CSN please “add on the edit button on this site” for God sake. I know you guys are doing a wonderful job, many thanks to you people. God bless us all. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • To be honest, with the kinds of pictures from the camp, I really was thinking you and the team were vacationing in Seychelles, as that country is renowned more internationally for its beautiful beaches and being a tourist delight than for its footballing prowess. I thought you guys wanted to have a taste of the famed paradise of beaches in Seychelles — which is not bad sha by the way.

Anyway, Libya beat these guys 5-1, so Nigeria must exceed that score and beat SA at home. Thank God it’s going to be live on DSTV.

  • nawao! critics has made gernot rohr changed. diz man dat was initially praising opponent team, now talk wit confidence. 9ice talk my coach. keep on showin confident, ur love wil be immeasurable. diz wat i hav been lookin for. keep showin us dat u hav changed.

  • Lybia beats them 5-1 but not on their ground so if Nigeria couldn’t beat with same margin no problem all we want is 3 points and were good

Iheanacho seem on this photo to have big belly for a sportsman.I reckon he eats pounded yam a lot psml.
Apparently, swallow and spicy foods like peppered soup could be detrimental to the effectiveness of a sportsman.
I advice he eats more English foods and run like Jamie Vardy not chippy though ha

Gernot Rhor has one language he often use to defend his work ‘youthful team’. They should by now become Adult team. Anyhow, Super Eagle must not loose that match.

  • @Greenturf dats de problem of iheanacho too much pounded yam. no wonder he cant run like vardy. mostly cannot run in full speed wen ball at his feet. @isaac rohr has gradually change. if he try any language like dat, den no need to cal him tactician, cuz he dont any brain to defend his work.

  • GR urgently needs the services of a therapist to change his language. Let him answer this question: How old is Mbappe?

  • _Where are the girls in bikini?-

To be honest, the pictures of your national team players chilling on the beach as part of preparations for an all important AFCON qualifier doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

But hey; when your opponents have never achieved anything worthy of note in football at any level in any gender, then I guess you can chill out on the beach as part of the preparations – let’s face it, a victory for Nigeria in today’s match is a forgone conclusion for many.

Allow me to correct myself: Seychelles has achieved things of note in football. In 2011, they were champions of the Indian Ocean Island Games and in 2006 they came 7th in the Cosafa Cup competition.

But, put those records to Super Eagles players and you give them more reasons to spend time on the beach prior to the next match against Seychelles.

Only this time, the beach will also include hot sexy women in inviting bikinis fooling around with our boys…..
