Rohr Hits Germany To Monitor Eagles Stars; Set To Name Squad For Serbia, Poland Friendlies

By Bamidele Boluwaji: Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has arrived in Germany to monitor players ahead of the international friendly matches against Serbia and Poland, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The former OG Nice of France manager who qualified Nigeria for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, has also been to France to speak with some of the players he intends to bring to the national team, since he left Morocco where Nigeria participated in the 2018 CAF African Nations Championship.

According to the Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, Rohr is determined to present a strong team at the 2018 World Cup and he has been scouting round Europe to get the best players that will help him actualise his dream of excellent performances in Russia.

“Rohr is in Germany now monitoring players that could make his team for the upcoming international friendly matches that will help him get the best for the World Cup”, Ibitoye told Completesportsnigeria.com

“He is determined to present a quality team in Russia and he has started monitoring the players he wants to give the opportunities to prove what they can do for Nigeria.”

Leon Balogun and Anthony Ujah, both of Mainz, and Wolfsburg’s Victor Osimhen are some of the Nigerian players currently playing in the German Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, Completesportsnigeria.com has been informed that the list of players that will play both Serbia and Poland international friendly matches will be out in early March.

“The list will be out soon but I’m sure around early March and that is why he is trying to move round now to see the players he is going to invite,” CSN was informed.

Nigeria, who will face Iceland, Argentina and Croatia in the first round of the FIFA World Cup in Russia, will play friendly matches with Poland in Warsaw on March 23 and Serbia in London on March 27.

  • Is Kelvin Akpoguna in Germany not ready to commit his future to Nigeria? Super Eagles need him to fortify the defence.

  • Lookman Ademola switch to the bundesliga(Lizpig) is very suspicious! seems NFF has deviced the best strategies getting these players. kudos !!!

Lookman Ademola would be a good addition to the national team but not before the world cup given the logistics required to effect his switch of nationality, besides there are a lot of options in the attack presently and displacing them in just fews to the world cup would be nearly impossible- the likes of Iheanacho, Iwobi, Ighalo, Victor Moses, Onyekuru Henry, Musa, Moses Simon.

What Nigeria needs is a world class goalkeeper. I’m afraid we cannot get one before June. The country has over 10 international class attackers, and not all of them can make the cut

Frantic pursuits of attackers while neglecting the goal keeping department does not seem wise to me. I beg to differ, but it seems Rohr/NFF are not paying much attention to finding a credible goalkeeper. A strong squad with a wobbly goalkeeper just awaits disaster to befall it. Unfortunately our choice is limited at the moment, but the one person we should bring into the fold is Enyeama. He’s got experience. Rohr/NFF should do the needful. They know what to do, and I think they can do it. I don’t believe an individual is greater than his country, if his service are needed.

O’Lord, give us one strong good goalkeeper who will defend and man the goalpost against those European strikers. Aguero and Messi are in form right now. Ekpeyi is our nightmare. Rohr should look at Paul Onuachu a good striker. Ujah was a disappointment when the late Kachi brought him in.

At the 1998 World cup in France, there was a clamour by many football enthusiasts for the recall of Peter Rufai. What followed was a horror show because the man was off form and had not kept in goal for so long. Leave Enyeama out of the equation. Experience only counts when you are active. I’ll take my chances with the Uzohos and Ezenwas.

@Abdulrazak, I concur with your opinion. A bird in hand is worth a million in the bush!

  • Enyeama has reiterated several times that he’s done with the eagles. It’s best we respect his decision and groom the upcoming goalkeepers. Nigeria have young goalkeepers with great potentials but for now, none is world class. Rohr have to believe firmly and instill confidence in them. I remember Korea/Japan 2002 world cup, Enyeama a legend now, was like one of these young goal keepers. In all our games, our defenders must give more to cover for any of them.
Enyeama however deserve due apology from the NFF for the incidents that transpired when coach Oliseh was in charge of the team.

you are absolutely right man @ geatoladapo he deserves an apology for the way he was treated, despite his service for this country he was treated like a trash by that Mr righteous man oliseh despite the fact that he lost his mother, then other younger goalkeeper can be given a chance if he says he is done with the national team

He had problems with oliseh and not Nff, I think it’s high time we forget about enyeama,he has done his bit.let him retire in peace.

GOAL KEEPER IS WHAT WE NEED MOST ROHR , PLEASE TIME IS KNOCKING TO US , WHAT IS YOUR PLAIN TO FIND A GOOD GOAL KEEPER BEFORE JUNE , PLEASE JUST HAVE IN MIND THAT WE DO NOT HAVE ANY WORLD CLASS GOAL KEEPER , THOSE CHAN GOAL KEEPERS ARE NOT QUALIFY TO HANDLE WORLD CLASS STRIKERS .

FIND GOAL KEEPERS PLS WE ARE VERY MUCH WORRY ON OUR LACK OF KEEPERS .

  • ALFREDINHO 1 week

Nigeria have 2 young keepers in the diaspora .They are Sebastian Osigwe and Mmaduka Okoye .These keepers can be integrated gradually to Super Eagles to become formidable teams members with other players in the squad .

Truly what Mr. Rohr needs now is a goalkeeper is just unfortunate on what has happen to carl ikeme bt d truth is we hav to move on, which we hav done by qualifying for d mundail. Now wt ds scenario of solving d goalkeeper dept. i tink wt d short timing we hav now we just hav to stick wt Ezenwa, Uzoho & Akpeyi. Ajiboye can b our standby goalie @d mundail. Calling Enyeama 2camp is nt d right tin, even me i dnt see him coming neither wil i support him coming back cos d truth in life is, d second coming of someone or what u wan2 try for d second time one is nt always lucky wt it. Rufai tried it @ France ’98 it wz a disaster for him (4games and he conceded 9goals) cheap ones for dat matter d rest wz history. Calling Sebastien Osigwe and Maduka Okoye wow! dat wil b great bt for d future nt for ds tournament. Osigwe is first choice goalkeeper for SC Kriens a 3rd division club in switzerland ds is a league where our goalies ar suppose 2b 1st choice goalkeepers for a 1st division clubs bsids Ike Shorunmu did it wt FC Zurich for like 4seasons before joining Besiktas of Turkey. why Okoye is wt Fortuna Dusseidolf 11 who are in d 4th tier of d german league where he has managed jst 2games out of 19games as i write ds post. Den dnt 4get Dele Alampasu who is wt feirense of Portugal who is d 3rd choice goalie of d club and last made match day squard december last year for his clubside. So trusting our hopes on ds 3 goalies is too risky coupled wt d type of tournament we ar goin to embark 2mk tinz worst d timing is just too close to look at dem. But as for d future i will surely support der invite (Osigwe & Okoye) cos d truth is we dnt hv goalkeepers even Ezenwa and Akpeyi are in der early thirtes so probably dey wont stay 4long. For now let d 2 goalkeepers trainers wil have work on Ezenwa, Akpeyi, Uzoho and Ajiboye & jst pick d best 3 from ds 4 den d fourth person on standby for d mundial. Having four of dem in camp wil even mk our goal trainers nt 2hv too much thinking to do.

Where is DELE AIYENUGBA? I believe he is still performing in Israel. Why can’t we forgive him and bring him back.

It’s like we’ve all forgotten about Austin Ejide. That guy has the required experience we’re looking for…I hope he’s in form anyway.
