Rohr: I’m Satisfied With Simy’s, Eagles’ Performance Vs DR Congo; England Game Will Be Better

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed his delight over the impressive showing of Crotone striker Simy Nwankwo on his Nigeria debut in the 1-1 draw with DR Congo – an international friendly game played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Port Harcourt on Monday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Nwankwo who scored seven goals for Crotone in the Serie A in the just concluded season in Italy forced three brilliant saves from the Congolese goalkeeper and was a handful for the Leopards’ defenders.

“It was a very good match because we played against a very good team from Congo. They came with a great squad,” Rohr told reporters in Port Harcourt after the game.

“The game was agood test for the players particularly those who we didn’t know very well. I’m satisfied with the performance of Simy. He is a natural centre forward. He didn’t have a profile until we found him.”

Rohr also explained reasons why Mikel Obi Odion Ighalo and John Ogu didn’t feature in the encounter.

He said: “We had to see some players who didn’t play so much. Two of them made the team and the pitch was not easy to play on. We didn’t want to take the risk of playing some players who arrived tired coming from China.

“The young players played very well, we scored a wonderful goal. We could have scored more but in the end we conceded a penalty.”

The German tactician also revealed that the Super Eagles will be at full strength when they take on the Three Lions of England on Saturday at the Wembley stadium.

“We have some problems with our full-backs, but I think in few days, we will have a full complement of our team with Victor Moses, Ighalo and Mikel. I think the team will be better than what we saw against Congo when we play on Saturday (against England). It was interesting to see everybody play.”

The Super Eagles are expected to depart Port Harcourt today (Tuesday morning) for Abuja where they will take part in a seminar on wealth creation, investment opportunities and portfolio management at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja in the afternoon.

They will also meet with President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) later on Tuesday evening.

Pls stop adding Ighalo to our messiahs when we all know mikel and Moses are the two backbone of the team for now Simy is the only reliable frontman who hardly misses target compared to odion as for lokosa he was played out of position but still showed intelligence with his build up plays and ball control I can hardly believe he’s a local player he has a bright future. GR our full backs are not good enough I wonder why musa Mohammed on right back and Mustapha Ibrahim on left back are missing…. complete sport always provide adequate news on this golden lads as we need news of the best talented sports lad another quick reminder kamaru Usman of the UFC made Nigeria proud till date we didn’t get that news… hire me for hot news if your resources are not doing a great job on sports research

Ighalo is a born finisher. With Simi  alias Peter crouch am happy we have a back up.
The pitch was so terrible, reason the Congolese were OK because it exactly the type of pitch they play in. NFF should stop making blunders.

      • @Stanley.That’s correct I said it that the pitch was bad and that youd not be the best from the Super Eagles – a team going to the world cup. They should let them play on a good pitch similar to the ones they’re going to be playing on during the mundial. NFF should not be listening to governors that are not ready to provide a good pitch for our national teams to be soliciting for them to use their pitches if know they’re are not ready to get it ready for use.

Like joke dis Agu guy will make the team. Rohr just dropped Lakosa, Agbo and Eze.. No surprises but he should have given them time to play. Agbo never got playing time but Agu has shown us countless times that he has nothing to offer.

To be honest guys our team is gradually revolving, imagine, simmy, mikel,Moses, ndidi, idowu, balogun, ekiong, ebuehi, ogu, uzoho, etebo,,this should our 1st eleven barring any unforeseen circumstance but our bench gives me a Lot of concern particularly d defence department but not to worry GR is d man in charge

A good performance from  simmy in our subsiquent friendly will force GR to  bench igahlo, simmy is a more complete striker than ighalo d reason y we didn’t. Loose d match yesterday was because GR didn’t sub him,he is a kind of player if u allow him to play his game he will score and if  concentrate on him others will score our opponents must be freaking out now with this latest discovery,I assume they might have planned how to deal with ighalo

  • Nigeria, all the way to the Semi final. Ghanaians are ready to support the Super Eagles to get the cup for Africa. Good luck, my brothers.

Kwame, thanks for the love. We love you guys too. You are among the few who wish us well and we appreciate you so much for that. Kindly talk to some of your brothers to shelve the jealousy and the hatred. Am forever a fan of the Black stars and I can roll out names of your players very easily. Let us all join hands together and we can conquer the world.

  • For me, Simy should start ahead of Ighalo

Super Eagles without Mikel Obi link play to the strikers is like Liverpool without Salah.
Rohr seems not to be seeing that the only competent Replacement for Mikel Obi Is not Joel Obi or Mikel Agu but Nwakali of Arsenal FC
