Rohr Still In Search Of Quality World Cup Goalkeeper, To Assess Ezenwa With CHAN

Rohr Still In Search Of Quality World Cup Goalkeeper, To Assess Ezenwa With CHAN

By Adeboye Amosu:  Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has admitted he is still on the look out for a quality goalkeeper for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Enyimba goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa was in goal in three of the team’s last four games but Rohr seems not fully satisfied with his performance.
First choice Carl Ikeme is treating leukaemia, Daniel Akpeyi has been erratic, while youngster Francis Uzoho is untested.
Rohr is however looking to assess former junior international Ezenwa further at the African Nations Championship in Morocco where he will be in goal for the home-based Super Eagles.
Chippa United’s Akpeyi failed to impress in Super Eagles last game against Argentina despite an impressive club form, while new invitee Uzoho is inexperienced at international level.
Rohr is also  trying to lure former first choice goalkeeper  Vincent Enyeama out of international retirement as the man who replaced him Ikeme may not be fit enough to be part of the team to the World Cup.
“The last challenge is to find a goalkeeper who satisfies us fully. We are working with my goalkeeping coach, Enrico Pionetti,” Rohr was quoted by French website Football365.fr.
“The  African Nations Championship will be important to take stock. Ikechukwu Ezenwa will participate, under the direction of my assistant Salisu Yusuf. I will follow things closely.”
The Super Eagles will face Croatia in their first group game in Russia on June 16 at   the Kaliningrad Stadium.

Nigeria should move past this issue of Vincent Enyeama and concentrate on Dele Ajiboye. If Festus Onigbinde didn’t give Vincent a chance, we would not be talking about him now.

Any player’s withdrawal is an opportunity for others to shine. We never can tell (We are not God), Dele Ajiboye may turn out to be the goalkeeper we have always longed for. Do not underrate anybody, I believe Dele Ajiboye will shine.

    The keepers I suggest the coach should take to the World Cup are;
    1. Dele Ajiboye
    2. Dele Alampasu
    3. Francis Uzoho

Imagine, nobody gave Dele Ajibode the chance to showcase himself. He was our keeper when Nigeria won the U-17 World Cup in Korea. Ike Casillas (Formerly of Real Madrid) & David De Gea (Presently with Manchester United) were youth goalkeepers for Spain at one time or the other, but went on to become their nation’s keepers.

It is insincere not to invite Dele Ajiboye to the Super Eagles. He was neglected in years past (Due to our dubious coaches’ politics). Dele Ajiboye is a brave Keeper and the earlier we brought him to the team, the better or is it because he hasn’t been opportuned to go abroad? Remember, Vincent Enyeama was taken abroad after his exploits with the national team.

These goalkeepers I mentioned above have World Cup experiences between them (Save for Francis Uzoho, who didn’t taste action in in UAE 2013). It doesn’t matter if was U-17 or U-20. Just give them a chance to prove themselves

Personal paid announcement for dele ajiboye, tell me the last time he kept in goal for super eagles or played for a reasonable club in nigeria, the fact is that he’s not good enough to play at top level if not he would have move out of the country to keep for a foreign club after 10 years of coming to the lime light. World cup is not for experiment but for players who have proven themselves in one way or the other. I still prefer eayeama for this world cup and ezoho gain experience for future cap.

  • Is true u quickly identify the major problem in our team before a time do.u are a good coach and may god bless u hundred times a day.

Why are we not considering recalling Israeli based experienced goal keeper, DELE AIYENUGBA who was ENYEAMA’S assistant before.

  • Just go for enyeama

  • Uhozo is good enough

  • Gernot please consider dele ajiboye i have confident on him

The coach knows what he is doing so we should allow him to do his job. It’s not wise to pack three inexperienced goal keeper’s to the World Cup and we are talking about semi finals. The coach understand that and that’s he is searching for a quality keeper.

A nice one there. Our coach is bent on giving us the best tested players in Russia 2018. I know if Enyeama will be our first choice goal keeper, God will make it be naturally. I pray for Gernot Rolr for excellent performance.

  • The news is that Vincent Enyeama started his first match for Lille with the u-18 team. We are happy that he is still a player of Lille. My question is that has Enyeama gained his form but only good for the Junior team? If Enyeama is not good enough for the senior team of Lille, how is he good enough for the national? Until Enyeama displace the present Lille goalkeeper, he should stay clear of the Eagles as said Peterside Idah. Meanwhile the national coach is a smart guy intending to use the Chan competition to monitor Ezenwa. For now Ezenwa and Akpeye are our main goalkeepers. I was told that leukaemia is difficult to treat. Nigeria should forget about Carl Ikeme. Not because of just the WC but even after the WC.

Thank God Enyeama featured in most recent French U-18 club side. Seven months to the world cup mundial speaks much to me spiritually. He himself has this to say on tweeter:

“God has been so faithful. 7 months and some weeks, God has taken me up. I had my 1st game. I want to thank everyone that worked for this day to happen. God bless you all.”

Just listen to his humble speech quote! Seven months and some weeks, and another seven months to the 2018 mundial speaks volumes.
We have not been fair to Enyeama. No Nigeria delegate has been heard traveled over to his club to find out how he has been fairing. But is a pity that Peterside Ideal could broadcast to the whole world about Enyeama’s crucifixion. How can someone who has been sick be pressured to be the life saver of our goalpost? It has not been fair!

If my message will get to Enyeama, I would want to apologize on behalf of every one who has been unfair to you. I want you, Enyeama to known that some few people like me still believe in you, and your ability to rise again. Please Enyeama, come over to our national team in the hands of a good coach, Gernot Rolr as God would help you in time, so as to make some of us who love and believe in you, to put smiles in our faces.

God bless Enyeama. No more knee injury. No more 7 months and half sidelining. Your present fitness as exemplified in your first match after recuperation, is a testimony.

  • Austin Ejide is doing great here in Israel

    Just go for Enyeama

  • We’re going to meet the world’s best strikers & some people are mentioning goalkeepers without experience.

Enyeama would humble a lot of deadly strikers like Messi & the rest.

It’s good enough he has returned to action; he didn’t just play, but stopped a spot kick in the course of that game.

For me, he should be one of our players heading to Russia next June.

  • Diran Ekundayo 4 years ago

Vincent Enyeama is Nigeria’s best goalkeeper with lots of experience. He should be number one for Nigeria at the world cup if we have any ambitions of going far in the tournament. Gernot Rohr, please take note of this.

  • vincent Onuigwe 4 years ago

Coach , pls call up Enyeama , for all the friendlies ,we need him in Russia .

call him back to our national team . Enyeama is still the best with experiences

  • Inyang U 4 years ago

Coach Rohr, please ensure Enyeama’s recall immediately. His first game after injury is a classic testimony. He is now fully fit. Let him join in some line up friendlies. By far, the outcry of majority Nigerian fans outrun the few selfish group who do not want your outstanding record in Russia. Thank you.
