Rohr To Update World Cup List With Poland, Serbia Friendlies; Monitors Ezenwa, Simon

By Adeboye Amosu: Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr says next month’s friendly fixtures against Poland and Serbia present a big opportunity for players to stake claims for spots in his final squad ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The three-time time African champions will face Poland in Warsaw on March 23rd and take on Serbia four days later in London.

Three other build-up games against Congo, England and Czech Republic are also lined up for May 28, June 2nd and June 6th respectively.

Rohr stated that he has pencilled down a list of 28 players for two friendlies and hopes the players push hard to make the final list for the mundial.

“In the next couple of weeks we will release a list of 28 players for the friendly games against Poland and Serbia. We still have one or two players that we want to check on before coming out with the list,” the German coach told CSN at the Agege Stadium, Lagos on Wednesday.

“Moses Simon has been injured a couple of weeks now and we expect that he will be back in action for his club (Gent of Belgium) this weekend.

“There is also Ezenwa who is injured at the moment but is working hard to be fit.

“The games against Poland and Serbia is a big chance for the new players to show they have what it takes to play for us. As you know the next game will be in May so now is time for everyone who want to go to Russia to prove their quality.

“The two games are also important for us because the last time we played together was in November against Argentina. So, it will be an opportunity to work together again before the World Cup.

“In May, we will release another 30-man list for the other friendly games from which we will draw the final list for the World Cup.”

The Super Eagles will open their campaign at the 2018 FIFA World Cup on June 16 against Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium.

They will also face Iceland on June 22 at the Volgograd Arena. Their final group game is against Argentina on June 26 at the Krestovsky Stadium, St Petersburg.

Russia 2018 World Cup, the Nigerian Soccer Project & Goalkeeping Brouhaha.

It is exactly 112 days to the inaugural match in Russia 2018 soccer fiesta. Also, only 30 days to Super Eagles’ top grade cracker with Lewandoski’s Poland.
The global football family is in a frenzy right now awaiting the WC event billed to be a classic & its first ever in the old eastern bloc.
The Fifa world event has recorded only Eight (8) World Cup Winners from its inception in 1930.
Would there be a new WINNER in Russia? Can the African continent produce its first Winner? In football, they say, anything is possible..
Preparations are in top gear & final stages for all 32 participants jostling to present their best teams, only one Nation will be crowned King on Sunday, July 15, 2018.
Super Eagles are Nigeria’s representatives & ambassadors to the Mundial. Expectations are very high! How far can the Super Eagles go?
The football world expects another inconsistent & dismal outing from Nigeria.
Foreign media, top foreign analysts & Coaches have been saying so with skeptical glee.
They don’t expect much. It has been like that in our five (5) previous participations, so they are right to hold such awful views.
However, things can change, Nigeria fans know so well that the current team is loaded & a good contender for title at the finals.
This team has the potential to grind out positive results!
The NFF & Sports Ministry have worked very hard & are still doing so.
The Coaching crew must live up to expectations of their fans by ensuring a top class performance, & also a finish in quality & style.
One area that seems so problematic is in GOALKEEPING.
This is the crux; this will either make or mar Nigeria’s chances of achieving its WC goals.
Carl Ikweme was good until poor health condition claimed him.
This forced Manager Gernot Rohr to reconsider clubless Vincent Enyeama, insisting on including him in his final team selection. Nigerians are getting jittery, recalling history of similar past occurrences & blunders that left a sour taste in our mouths.
You can’t blame the Gaffer, though.
The array of Nigerian shot stoppers used so far in matches have failed to match expected standards & far below what the mundial requires for serious contenders. We are not going for a jamboree.
From woeful Apkeyi, Ezenwa, Alampasu, Ajiboye, et al, none have lived up to the billing.
They have posted abysmally between the sticks for Nigeria. (Apologies).
    So, there is a problem.
Young Uzohor was good against Argentina. He is very talented, but lacks experience & quality game time at his Spanish division 2 club.
Who wants to take a chance? No, not at the World Cup where you are supposed to be a Cup contender.
Our search threw us back to AUSTIN EJIDE, 33years old, Hapoel Hadera Fc, Israel.
Ejide’s football exploit is no news to Nigerians, (You can Google that).
The keeper was deputy to Vincent Enyeama from 2002 -2014.
What is primary right now is for the Super Eagles to have a quality representation in goalpost, & Austin Ejide looks that guy every inch & bit – all the way.
Ejide has all the features of a World Class GoalKeeper: he is tall, talented, strong & athletic. He has sharp reflexes & parades loads of international experience.
He is agile, has excellent grip on the ball, deals well wit crosses, difficult to beat on one-one situation, organizes his defenses very well, very confident, inspiring and commanding. He can stop penalties too.
This is the type of goalkeeper you want to have behind ur defenders.
See his current videos on YouTube channel to be convinced.
    This AUSTIN is Our Man!
He is the SOLUTION to Super Eagles Goalkeeping problems.
    Coach Rohr, look no further!
If he has committed any wrong doings against the NFF he should be pardoned.
Against this background, baring injury, Coach Gernot Rohr should make haste to recall Austin to his team ahead of Poland & Serb grade A friendly games for proper assessment, as a well deserved chance for the Super Eagles No.1 spot.
I think with this consideration, the other young and upcoming keepers can join to compete & increase the options for available 3 spots.
Some of the suggested names should include Uzohor, Maduka Okoye, Nwokolor, and Ezenwa.
No sentiments attached; only the best should be engaged.
    Good luck!

      Well done agent kingmaker

    • I was trying to reason with you until I saw “Austin ejide”.thank God Almighty that our coach is GERNOT ROHR not you and the rest of the people being paid to hype up flops ahead of the world cup.

  • Abdul andah 9 months ago

Na ejide you dey analyse to be this good?
With this your sweeten analysis on ejide he should be better de gea and the rest.
How much did ejide pay you for this advertisement on his behalf?
And you wrongly said that uzoho has not been playing?
    Nawao.
I will take uzoho over and over again AHEAD of your calamities ejide.
And you ended up by saying no sentiment attached?
Thank God say Rohr Sabi analyse football more than you and i

    • Nwaebonyi 9 months ago

@Abdul Andah don’t say so, Ejide is a Nigerian and should be giving a chance to prove himself, sentiments apart the guy is good in his area

    • lambert 9 months ago

      You dey mind am.

    • Papa J 9 months ago

My I totally agree with his analysis. Ejide has the required exposure and experience, he’s been tested, proven to be equal to the task in fact he’s the best we’ve got now.

  • Aleks 9 months ago

Just hoping that Joel Obi will be handed a recall, and Paul Onuachu given a chance to prove himself in Super Eagles colours

    • Patrick 9 months ago

Yes we need Joel obi and Paul onuocho

    • Abdul andah 9 months ago

Ejide does not fit into the modern day football Rohr is building with the super eagles that’s why he hasn’t been called up.
Take it or you live it!
Rohr can’t be sentimental if am being sentimental as you think because Rohr is not a nigerian.

  • I believe strongly if Ejide is still as good as the “kingmaker ” has analysed,Rohr will definitely give him a chance.
Honestly speaking none of all the other keepers mentioned will give us the confidence we need against the world class oppositions we have .
Enyeama is rusty and with the way he retired from the team he is not going to be a good addition and influence on the team .
Francis to me remains our best bet if Rohr will give him enough playing time at the forthcoming friendlies I think we should be able to conclude on his abilities .
Ezenwa deserves to be a second keeper to whoever that our first choice keeper eventually turns out to be.He has done enough to be our 2nd choice.
For the 3rd keeper the best of our youth/age grade keepers should be given the exposure of football at the highest level.

Dat guy was paid to speak for ejide, I don’t have a problem with ejide returning to d team buh he should stop giving wrong analysis, uzoho has been playing regularly for depotivo B team and has even posted loads of clean sheet including one in d seria A so let just be sincere. Ejide is free to come back if d coach feels he wants him, but we should stop giving fake information

  • chudi 9 months ago

sentiment apart fellow nigerians, the best goal keeper nigeria have now is ejide, hate him or like him, he is good bro, the youtube is there for you to witness it, he is the only keeper that gave enyeama tough time and he is still doing great things in football, please do not analyse football if you do not really know what it takes to be a world class, other keepers are good but ejide is ahead of them in everything , am not saying rohr must invite him but he deserve a chance to show me and all of us if he truly deserve the call up. do not speak bad about him if you are not following his games, he deserve a chance like other keepers and i bet you all ,you will swallow your words.

  • vincent Onuigwe 9 months ago

Please coach Gernot Rohr , remove you mind from Ezeawan as your top goal keeper , Go for Austin EJIDE , and others be second , give Austin EJIDE chance to prood his worth .

GOAL KEEPER IS OUR MAJOR PROBLEM , AND AUSTIN EJIDE IS THE SOLUTION AS FOR NOW .

  • Edoman of New Jersey, USA. 9 months ago

Ezeawan is good for the sub/2nd in the goalkeeping area. He is only good in local jambody soccer they play within Nigeria, You all saw what happen to Akpeyi during the 1st half against Argentina without Messi. Uzoho should be the number one goalkeeper and for God sack, lets try Austin Ejide in the next upcoming match against Poland. What have we got to lose if try Uzoho, Ejide, against Ezeawan and Akpeyi. Again, you all saw how Morocco embarrassed the Nigerian goalkeeper in that final match. Nobody talks about that goalkeeper since then. The same fate is awaiting Ezeawan and Akpeyi if you play them against these European sharp shooters. Believe me.

Fellow Nigerians, what is the clamour about if a patriotic fan suggested Austin Ejide for evaluation?
Is getting a quality GOALKEEPER not the Super Eagles problem for now. What is now wrong wit the suggestion to try Ejide, former Deputy to Enyeama? Is Austin retired from football yet? The World Cup is not where u learn experience. WC is not for boys but MEN, the very best players from each nation. The best strikers will be on parade.
Pls, Oga Rohr & Oga Amaju Pinnick, get Ejide for the trials.
Let the Poland & Serbia matches be used to asses him. If he isn’t good enough then so be it.
@Abdul andah, you missed the point raised by ‘The Kingmaker’. Go watch Austin EJIDE on YouTube before drawing conclusions. I just did, EJIDE is still in excellent form in goal.
Those monitoring Nigeria soccer know what it takes to challenge for top prize.
Our Goalkeepers suggested for the Mundial: 1. Austin Ejide, 2. Francis Uzohor, 3. Maduka Okoye, 4. Ezenwa.
