Rohr: Uzoho Good Enough To Be Super Eagles No.1; Won’t Fear Messi, Others

Rohr: Uzoho Good Enough To Be Super Eagles No.1; Won’t Fear Messi, Others

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is upbeat that young goalkeeper Francis Uzoho will come good at the World Cup in Russia as first choice, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

“I don’t think goalkeeping is the weak link in my team,” Rohr told CSN in Abuja.
“After we lost Carl Ikeme to sickness, we had what seemed like a goalkeeping crisis but Ikechukwu Ezenwa did well in the qualifiers but we kept looking for options.

“Francis Uzoho came as an option because to go to the World cup, you require two good goalkeepers and I must say he has done well in the three games he has played for the Super Eagles that I won’t be afraid to start him in our opening game against Croatia at the World Cup in Russia.

“Francis is good and tall, and he is ready to learn. He did well in the friendly games against Argentina and Poland with two clean sheets and conceded two goals against Serbia in his third game in which I experimented with some players and tactics.

“I don’t believe he will get stage fright playing against the likes of Messi and other big names in Russia, because after playing against the likes of Lewandowski of Poland, Aguero and Di Maria of Argentina, I am optimistic that he would rise to the occasion in Russia.”

Rohr pointed out that he was in Abuja for update from the Nigeria Football Federation general secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, on the preparation for the send-off game with Congo in Port Harcourt, adding that he has checked the pitch and has made his observations known and hopefully it will be ready on time for the game.

On his 35-man team list for the World cup, Rohr stated that he would submit the lost by May 4 to the NFF.

He is the coach he is in the best position to know what the team needs to do well, all they need now is support, and total freedom over team’s sellections and tactics from the NFF.I am optimistic that the NFF under the leadership of Mr Pinnick will not disappoint Nigerian.Up Super Eagles! I prefer Dele alampasu. They need to give him a chance! He is flexible, a quick thinker and knows how to adjust himself easily like Manchester United Goal keeper De Gea. I wish Uzoho all the best too.

I wish onyekuru Henry,Samuel Kalu and CD will make the list.
I wish our boys injury free towards the tail end of the season. Ameen.
I also pray that uzoho will shine in the world cup and justify the huge trust in him by the gaffer.

Good talk from Coach Rohr on Uzoho capabilities which is cheering news to fans. However, we are already used to the mind-game of the gaffer who can alter what he just informed the media.
We believe that the 35-man list which is provisional will reveal the Coach’s intention.
May 4 is next week so we can only react after seeing his list.
Rubber stamp men are always available in all works of life. They are the “YES” men. The people without the ability to think through situations and profer alternative & functional solutions. There are a threat organizational success. In football, they abound as well. They can criticize, gest and mock simply as a show of their characteristics.
We will appropriately respond to the list when it is made public.
Either of two things will surface from Rohr’s list; a capable squad capable of bringing honours to Nigeria, or a probable team heading for an early crash. Experience has shown it’s a possibility.
No Nigerian wants eagles to get boothed out early, so expressing fears are signs that things can be done much better. This is our thinking.
It is needless to make fun of others whose views are way different, because everyone is contributing to the quest for rousing success of the team.

  • Dats y i dey like dis coach. Like my brodas said our known coach as name his choice, now over to u internet coaches wit their youtube players.

  • The prayer on everyone’s lips is that The Almighty grants coach Rohr the wisdom to select a team capable of doing the nation proud.

This is the greatest assignment yet of his (national team) coaching career and he surely will not want to make a mess of it.

So, I am trusting that he will not let sentiment nor needless subjectivity get in the way of his ambitions – who knows, this kind of opportunity may prove difficult to come by next time.

I wish to see Simon Nwankwo given a chance to fight for a shirt in the eagles squad to Russia. He can give us a nudge in our attack…

I have observed that those who deeply divide the house are ppl without good education. Any suggestions they don’t understand they quickly condemn.. They don’t know what constructive criticism is about, and would attack whoever starts one.
They don’t know about research, neither think that the internet is the best research tool globally. They play down on Wikipedia, YouTube and other serious research tools as common and useless. It is so glaring that their inability to understand the world around them is because they don’t have education. ‘Many of them no go school’.
So, guys accept it when after writing a view somebody will tear it apart and starts insulting and making mockery of you. Just know at that point, ‘the fellow never went to school.’
Eagles would do well or fail woefully would depend on the choice of players & tactics employed. Rohr is in charge and will be held fully accountable for team’s performance. In the meantime we will support his choice.

I still have this fear in me whenever Uzoho is in the goalpost even though I like him as No.1 but since the Coach trusts him,I think I don’t have any need to worry then. Uzoho will also be surely ready for the challenge come June 2018. Online coaches, how market??? What about your Ejide,Aiyenugba,Peter Rufai and maybe Ike shorunmu….lol

  • Fingers crossed you say. if Nigeria do well at d world cup heaven will not fall and if we did not same will not happen. So what is the fuss all about after all, only one country can win the cup. It is not a do or die and he can not invite all the players in Nigeria. So pls leave the coach in charge to do his job and face your own pay job @ omo9ja and other YouTube coach.

I have nothing against Uzoho being the 1st choice. My fear for him is the observed stage fright. If the coaches can help him overcome that, then he is good to go.
