Real Madrid cut Barcelona’s lead to seven after winning 2-1 in Saturday’s El Clasico at the Nou Camp.
Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored the winner, secured the win for Madrid.
Gerard Pique had given Barcelona the lead.
Barcelona had the first attempt on goal in the 3rd minute but Luka Modric blocked a Lionel Messi intended pass for Luis Suarez.
In the eight minute, a through pass from Andreas Iniesta to Suarez was snuffed out by Keylor Navas.
Suarez had Barcelona’s best chance in the 10th minute following Neymar’s assist but he surprisingly missed an open net.
Real Madrid had a chance in the 16th minute after Gareth Bale broke but his cutback was blocked by Jordi Alba before Claudio Bravo gathered the rebound.
Messi came close to scoring in the 19th minute only for his free-kick fly just over the bar.
On 20 minutes, Ivan Rakitic saw his left curler palmed away by Navas.
In the 23rd minute Messi was brought down in the 18-yard box by Sergio Ramos but the referee waved play on.
Ronaldo had his first chance on goal in the 25th minute but his left strike was punched away by Bravo.
A minute later Bale had an opportunity but shot over the bar.
In the 35th minute a Ronaldo free-kick went over Barcelona’s wall and over the bar for a goal kick.
Dani Alves took a right-foot shot in the 42nd minute but it went wide over the bar.
Karim Benzema was presented with a chance in the 43rd minute from six yard but blasted wide off target.
In the 47th minute Messi saw his free-kick go over the bar.
Four minutes later Modric took a shot from outside the box which took a slight deflection off Ramos but Bravo gathered calmly.
In the 54th minute Messi saw his clever placing parried away by Navas for a corner.
Gerard Pique finally opened the scoring in the 56th minute connecting with a bullet header off a Rakitic corner.
Benzema equalised for Madrid in the 62nd minute hitting a scissor kick past Bravo after Toni Kroos initial shot came off Alba.
In the 68th minute, a good build up play from Madrid saw Bale hit a low shot which was well saved by Bravo.
In the 74th minute Barcelona made their first change with Arda Turan replacing Rakitic.
With 13 minutes Jesse Rodriguez replaced goal scorer Benzema.
Suarez came close to putting Barcelona 2-1 ahead but his volley missed the target.
Madrid had the ball in the back of the net through Bale but it was ruled out for an infringement.
Ronaldo put Madrid 2-1 up in the 85th minute, chesting down Bale’s cross before shooting past Bravo.
