Rooney Agrees Deal To Join MLS Club DC United

Former Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney is set to join United States of America Major League Soccer club DC United at the end of the season.

According to the BBC, the 32-year-old Everton forward has agreed in principle to join the MLS club in a £12.5m deal.

Rooney’s representatives have been in the US to negotiate terms, with the player willing to make the move, BBC reported on Thursday.

Rooney, who re-joined childhood club Everton in July 2017 after 13 successful years with Manchester United, is Everton’s top scorer this season with 11 goals.

England and United record goalscorer Rooney is reported to have been offered a contract until the end of the 2020 MLS season. The US transfer window opens in July.

Rooney has one year left on his two-year deal at Goodison Park. He has played 31 times in the league this season.

  • Opinion is divided as to whether Rooney will indeed go down as an England legend.

He did have some brilliant performances here and there but would history really put him in the same class as David Beckham, Michael Owen or Gary Linekar?

His recent drink-driving conviction was not good.

However, what is beyond doubt is that he will be seen as an English Premier League legend with stellar performances for Manchester United over the years.

    Good luck in America Rooney!
