By James Agberebi: Nigerian forward Alhaji Gero was the hero for Oestersunds as his lone strike secured a 1-0 home win against second division club GAIS in the quarter-finals of the Swedish Cup on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Gero who was introduced in the 66th minute scored with four minutes remaining in the game.
Oestersunds now join Malmo, who edged IFK Goteborg 1-0 in Saturday’s other quarter-final, in the semi-final.
The other two quarter-finals with see Djurgarden host Hacken on Monday and Orebro will be guests to AIK on Tuesday.
In the Russian top flight, Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa was impressive for CSKA Moscow who defeated FK Akhmat 3-0.
Musa, who played for 90 minutes against FK Akhmat, has however failed to score in five straight games in all competitions for CSKA Moscow.
And in the Spanish LaLiga also on Sunday, Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo was on from the start before being replaced on 46 minutes as 10-man Las Palmas lost 2-0 to visiting Villarreal.
Carlos Bacca (67th minute) and Nicola Sansone (91st minute, penalty) were the scorers for Villarreal.
Alejandro Galvez was sent off for Las Palmas in the 90th minute after giving away the penalty to Villarreal.
Las Palmas have now failed to win any of their last six league games (three defeats, three draws), and are in the relegation zone in 18th position on 20 points in the league table.
