By Johnny Edward: Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was sent off in his 18th start for Leicester City whose four-game winning streak was halted by Crystal Palace 3-0 in the Premier League at the King Power stadium on Saturday. It was Ndidi’s first ever red card in European football.
The 21-year-old midfielder became the first player to be sent off in the English Premier League on his birthday since Dwight Gayle suffered the same fate on 17 October, 2015.
Ndidi’s compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho returned to Leicester City’s match day squad but was an unused substitute in the defeat. He has made nine appearances so far. Ahmed Musa was however left out as usual.
At Stamford Bridge, Super Eagles star Victor Moses played for 82 minutes for Chelsea who scraped past Southampton with a 1-0 win. The game was Moses’s 50th Premier League start for the Blues.
At Vicarage Road, Isaac Success was not listed in Watford’s matchday squad that lost 4-1 to Huddersfield Town. Success is yet to make an appearance in the English Premier League this season.
Alex Iwobi made his 10th appearance of the EPL season in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United. He has scored once this term for Arsenal.
In the English Championship, Sone Aluko was subbed off in the 77th minute by Jon Dadi Boedvarsson in Reading’s 2-0 defeat away to Ipswich Town.
At the Cardiff City Stadium, Super Eagles defender Ola Aina made his 19th start of the season in the Championship for Hull City who lost 1-0 to Cardiff City.
In Germany, Victor Osimhen played for nine minutes for Wolfsburg who lost 1-0 to FC Cologne on Saturday in the German Bundesliga. The Nigerian international replaced Yannick Gerhardt for his fifth substitute appearance this season.
Leon Balogun played for 45 minutes in FSV Mainz 05’s 2-2 draw away at Werder Bremen. He was replaced by Emil Berggreen in what was his sixth Bundesliga start.
In Holland, Bartholomew Ogbeche fired blanks in Willem II Tilburg’s 3-2 loss at home to PEC Zwolle. Ogbeche has scored eight goals in eight Dutch Eredivisie games this season.
In Belgium, Samuel Kalu and Anderson Esiti were both yellow carded in Gent’s goalless draw away to Standard Liege who had Henry Agbo for the entire game.
In Turkey, Ogenyi Onazi was an unused substitute for Trabzonspor who defeated William Troost Ekong’s Bursaspor 1-0 on Saturday.
Elderson Echiejile was also an unused substitute for Sivasspor in their 1-1 draw away at Alanyaspor. Echiejile has made seven appearances this term in the Turkish Super Lig.
Kenneth Omeruo made his 12th appearance for Kasimpasa who forced Genclerbirligi to a goalless draw. His compatriot Emem Eduok came on for Franck Etoundi in the 68th minute of the encounter. Eduok has played 15 games this season scoring four goals.
Abdullahi Shehu made his 14th appearance for Anorthosis Famagusta who spanked Aris Limassol 2-0. Shehu has made 14 appearances in the Cypriot top flight division.
In South Africa, Daniel Akpeyi was left out of Chippa United’s squad that slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Polokwane City. Akpeyi has kept six clean sheets, conceding five goals in 11 starts in the ABSA Premier League. His compatriot James Okwuosa played the entire duration and was yellow carded in the 85th minute.
