New Super Eagles invitee Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwankwo could not prevent Crotone from losing 2-1 away to Napoli in their final Serie A game of the season on Sunday.

The defeat saw Crotone relegated to Serie B after ending the campaign in 18th position on 35 points, just three points away from safety.

Nwankwo ended the season with seven goals after making 22 league appearances.

In the Belgian Championship play-offs, Super Eagles forward Moses Simon helped Gent secure a UEFA Europa League spot following their 1-0 away win against Club Brugge.

Gent finished fourth in the six-team Championship play-off decider.

Anderson Esiti was also in action for Gent while their Nigerian teammate Samuel Kalu was not included in the squad.

In another Belgian Championship play-off tie, Super Eagles defender Uche Agbo featured for Standard Liege who held Sporting Charleroi to a 0-0 away draw.

Standard Liege ended in second position in the play-off and have qualified for the UEFA Champions League qualifying stage.

And in the first leg quarter-finals of the Spanish Segunda B (third division) promotion play-off, Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was in goal for RCD Fabril who lost 2-1 away to Extremadura.

RCD Fabril will entertain Extremadura in the second leg which comes up on Friday, May 25.

In another Segunda B play-off fixture on Sunday, young Nigerian midfielder Samuel Chukwueze was on target for Villarreal B who defeated Athletic Bilbao B away in their first leg clash.
Former Golden Eaglet Chukwueze got his side’s second goal as they gained a big first-leg advantage.

  • This is a unique player that super eagles have been lacking for awhile now as the present super eagles team currently has no left footed winger to dribble and cut from the left. The only left footed players we have on d team are Elderson, oguand Joel obi. He is a future super eagles matwrial for sure. He is our own arjen robben in d making, he has same qualities, incredible with the left foot cuts and finishes with aplomb. Watch out for dis guy in the future.

I just hope Simy will make the cut. We need another outright attacker.

Simy is a player we may need, with European experience. He is 26 yrs old, [email protected] born in Onitsha 7/5/1992. Real name Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo. As a youth he was with Guo fc Onitsha (?) before going to Portuguese club Portimonense appearing 55 times and scoring 17 goals in the 2011-2013 seasons, average of 1goal in 3matches. Moved to Gil Vincent fc Portugal from 2013-2016 appearing 88times for them with 29goals an average of 1goal in 3games. Now in Italy seria A since 2016 with Crotone fc who gave just being relegated with just 3 points to escape relegation. He appeared 43times scoring 10 goals. Not too bad for him. I think we need him since he can score when the opportunity it chance presents itself.

7 goals in 22 games is not such a big deal. Let us not over hype this simmy of a guy. Of course, I am glad he was invited, but the fact remains that team work and determination will be our greatest asset at the World Cup, not any individual player.
