By Johnny Edward: Former Nigerian youth international, Abdul Ajagun was on target for Kortrijk who advanced to the next round of the Belgian Cup defeating Gent 4-1 on Tuesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Gent started Anderson Esiti in the game but left out Samuel Kalu and Moses Simon from the squad that crashed out of the Beker Van Belgie.
Ajagun made it 3-0 in the 40th minute after goals from Lucas Rougeaux and Idir Ouali gave the hosts, Kortrijk 2-1 lead in the 24th minute. It was his fourth goal of the season.
Taiwo Awoniyi also made an appearance for Royal Excel Mouscron who crashed out of the Belgian Cup losing 1-0 away to Royal Antwerp.
In the game involving Oostende and Standard Liege which the latter won 3-2, Uche Agbo was not listed for the encounter.
In Germany, Leon Balogun made his sixth start for FSV Mainz in Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat away to Borussia Dortmund. It was Balogun’s second game since suffering a hand fracture in November. A goal in each half from Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shinji Kagawa earned the win for Dortmund in five games.
The Nigeria international was on for the entire duration of the encounter.
