RUSSIA 2018: 5 Creative Opponents Rohr Would Wish Played For Super Eagles

While the Super Eagles are struggling for creativity as the Russia 2018 World Cup approaches, Completesportsnigeria.com JOHNNY EDWARD lists five creative players Nigeria’s group opponents possess that Gernot Rohr would wish were his…

Luka Modric (Real Madrid and Croatia)

Modric is a great passer of the ball and possesses the vision to find his forwards with well-timed through balls.

The Croatia captain has been the cog in the wheel for the Vatreni and Real Madrid. He was instrumental in the Los Blancos winning the UEFA Champions League twice in four years.

The  32-year-old midfielder has been to two FIFA World Cups and so far this season he has scored two goals, six assists in 36 appearances for Real Madrid while creating plenty of scoring opportunities. Checkout online casinos and sportsbook reviews

Lionel Messi (Barcelona and Argentina)

Lionel Messi remains the biggest threat to the Super Eagles getting at least a win at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Messi has not lost a game to Nigeria at any level of football.

He has scored 39 goals and provided 16 assists so far in 47 games for Barcelona this season.

Ever Banega (Sevilla and Argentina)

Ever Banega is a midfielder that has eyes for crisp and defence-splitting passes.

He alongside Angel Di Maria will be looked upon to get the La Albiceleste going at the 2018 Russia World Cup in Russia.

He has scored four goals and provided five assist in 44 games for Sevilla this season.

Mateo Kovacic (Real Madrid, Croatia)

Despite having just one goal and four assists for Real Madrid this season to his name, Mateo Kovacic has had a hand in 21 goals scored by Real Madrid this season. His ability to launch attacks has seen him being compared with his compatriot Luka Modric who is ten years older than him.

The midfielder has 94% pass accuracy for Real Madrid this season, playing a key role off the bench as the side chase another UEFA Champions League title.

Albert Gudmundsson (Iceland, PSV Eindhoven)

Gudmundsson has been in sparkling form in the Netherlands this season with nine goals and seven assists for PSV Eindhoven’s second team in the second division while also making appearances in the top flight.

The 20-year-old who has scored three goals for Iceland at international level can play in any position in attack and will be looking to make a bigger name for himself in the World Cup 2018.

Blessed with abundant pace and skill, Gudmundsson is one of the players Iceland will be banking on the make history at the World Cup in Russia.

So, what do we make of this? Is our Gernot Rohr developing cold feet, and now looking for excuses to fail? The performance of players in a club where they play with the same colleagues week in week out is often different from what they produce in national colours playing with “strangers” against strangers. The strength of Nigeria in Russia will be the arrogance of our opponents who believe that if no Nigerian plays for Barcelona and Real Madrid the Super Eagles are losers.

Mr Rohr is not picking our best players.. his selection is based on sentinents and players that are his friends but hides under d umbrella that this are players he can trust.. pls Rohr and d NFF.. the super eagles belongs to every nigerian even in diaspora and every nigerian that is good and credible shld ve given ample opportunity. Loads of loop holes in d team and we have to remove sentiments and invite our best players to represent us in dz worldcup

Lets the truth be told, playing a European National Team is real than playing Cameroon or Zambia, even then Iwobi and Moses stood out. l tell you folks, if Rohr insist on going to Russia without a sticker or with one who never know how to score, then don’t expect to come out of the group stage no matter how some folks wants or wishes it so. In Russia, there will be no sentiment but a reality. Believe me.

Nicolsen,u are right, I ve said before and I would say it again, Rohr selections are based on sentiments and bribery. Ppl equating overhyped Iwobi and clueless Iheanacho with Messi and Modric. No worries world is just around the corner. We shall see.Ajagun and Okechukwu Would never get a call

    • Ayphillydegreat 5 months ago

How is Rohr selecting players on sentiments and bribery? How is Iwobi overhyped? and how is Kelechi clueless? Did you watch them play today? Iwobi was a joy to watch against Newcastle and Kelechi gave Vardy an assist. Ofourse every good Nigerian player deserves a chance in the team, but the truth is not every good players will go to the WorldCup. With what we have at the moment, SuperEagles will not lay low to any team in Russia. I’m sure the likes of Iwobi, Moses, Kelechi, Mikel, Ndidi and the Oyinbo wall will come to the party. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE#

Who told you ?No sentiment in the list. They all played qualifier together.

  • @ Sunnyb, weldone. Iwobi is now over hyped? But he wasn’t when he scored d only goal dat is taking u to Russia. Suddenly, u want Ajagun and Okechukwu ahead of him(an Arsenal player). This is y we don’t need an indegineous coach again. They are people like sunnnyb that will leave Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal players..for teams in Malta, Vietnam, Finland in search for players because they score more goals.

  • lol asin comparing ajagun with iwobi.suddenly rohr picks players on sentiment because he didn’t put d players these internet coach want.

  • Don’t know why some people reason with their anus. Imagine someone calling Iwobi and Iheanacho names because the coach has refused to call their Utube Desser. I think it is high time completesports editor sample some of the comments before allowing it to make front page. Honestly this people comments are annoying.

I av been following this debate of players to invite and players not to invite, but I want everyone to understand that everybody av their choice of players and opinion will awaz be decided when it comes to this, but it av not gotten to the extend of dome of us reasoning abnormal,I mean how can some pple be telling the coach not to invite the two most talented and intelligent young player we av in the squad iwobi and ihenacho to the team, where were u pple when iwobi and ihenacho destroyed Zambia both home and away and repeated it against Argentina, calling for new players is right but not to the extend of leaving ur best players, bcus some player put up one decent performance in one less fancied league in Europe ,take it or leave it ihenacho and iwobi are among the six most important players in super eagle,(1)Mikel obi(2)Victor moses(3)troost ekong(4)Leon balogun(5)Alex iwobi(6)kelechi iheanacho

    CORRECTION

I am beginning to feel and sincerely believe that some of the comments these days on this CSN forum are those of other foreigners who are not our friends, who are evil-minded and finding ways to bring disunity into our already built team in SE!

So Alex Iwobi (who listened to his uncle JJ and opt to play for his true originland & motherland) and Kelechi Iheanacho (a true confirmed FIFA youth grade hero) are NOW overhyped, abi ?
These young men PUT IN their all and their goals contributed to the qualification of SE to the up-coming FIFA World Cup with a match to spare!!!

We are in a group with Caneroun, Algetia and Zambia … For F**k sakes !!!
AND WE QUALIFIED WITH A GAME TO SPARE!!!

What the hell is wrong with some people ??? Is it because the Internet provides us with social and public forum and expression that some of us go just want show how ungrateful and evil-thinking they can be !!!

I have always ask this question and I’m still awaiting for an answer….
Question: all you “internet coaches and advisers”…where were you when the draw came up for the qualifiers ??? Where was your team list and suggestive slangs ????
    Answer: ????

***if most of these comments are coming out from real and true men of Nigerian blood…then the future is heading in a false direction ….my reason is simple ..” We cannot deal with what is tested and trusted….we are imaginary uncomfortable and absolute failure in seeking positive challenges !!!!”

I don talk my own!!!…CSN, if you like delete my post….no bi today !!!

***God bless Nigeria…A true motherland !!!***

No matter how one looks at the situation we are in, Nigeria needs a strong striker. l mean real and effective striker in the mode of Agharuwa or Thomson Eussaan of yester years or Odagbemi (Mathematician) Thank God, Henry Onyekuru (young Tiger}is coming back. Iwobi, (England is still angry with Nigeria for snatching him away), Moses, God bless him, Iheanacho and the Ohinbo wall are all our National heroes and treasures and therefore are all untouchables. How l wish Obagoal wasn’t injured. Nigeria needs # 9 desperately.
