Rwanda Unveil Squad for CHAN, Confident Of Beating Nigeria

By Adeboye Amosu: Rwanda have unveiled their 23-man squad for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) early next year in Morocco, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.

The Amavubi will face Nigeria in their opening game of the competition, designed for players plying their trade in their countries’ domestic leagues, on January 15 in Tangier.

Libya, who won the competition in 2014, and Equatorial Guinea are the other teams in the group.

Top on the list of players who will do battle for the country in Morocco are goalkeeper and skipper of the team are Eric Ndayishimiye, Manzi Thierry and Nshuti Innocent.

Amavubi assistant coach, Mashami Innocent, who represented head coach Antoine Hey at the unveiling ceremony on Friday, stated that he is confident the team will make it beyond the group stage in the competition.

“We have assembled a good squad and we believe in them. We are heading to Tunisia to enhance our preparations. We believe we will be ready for CHAN tournament quest,” Mashami told the Rwanda FA official website.

“Our main ambition is to reach the quarter-finals of the CHAN tournament. We have tricky sides in our group but our key to enable the success of our mission is to win the opening game against Nigeria on January 15.

“If we can qualify from the group stage, then we will have equal chances just like other qualified teams to even reach the semi-final round.”

The Amavubi will depart for Tunisia on New Year to begin the final lap of their preparation for the competition.

While in Tunisia, they will play two friendly matches against Sudan and Algeria on January 5 and January 10, 2018 before heading to Morocco on January 11.

The CHAN tournament will take place between 13th January to 4th February 2018 in Morocco.
