South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan has reiterated that there is no pressure on Shakes Mashaba to qualify for the 2015 African Cup of Nations.
Speaking at the launch of the Castle Football Academy in Newtown on Monday morning, Jordaan explained that Bafana Bafana’s focus is firmly on qualifying for tournaments that follow AFCON Morocco 2015.
Unlike predecessor Gordon Igesund, Mashaba’s mandate will not demand that he achieves immediate success.
It was expected of Igesund, who was handed the reins in 2012, to lead Bafana Bafana to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and reach the semifinals of the 2013 African Cup of Nations on home soil.
“Bafana Bafana’s focus is on AFCON 2017, FIFA World Cup 2018 and beyond. We want to build a team for Qatar 2022 that will not only go there, but also compete,” said Jordaan.
