Liverpool on Saturday won the eighth edition of the Premier League Asia Trophy as they defeated Leicester City 2-1 at the Hong Kong Stadium, China.
Islam Slimani for Leicester City, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Phillipe Coutinho were on the scoresheet in the match.
Super Eagles pair of Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa were on for Leicester, while young England youth international with Nigerian blood, Dominic Solanke, featured for Liverpool, all three making second half appearances.
Coutinho had the first chance of the game with a shot at the edge of the box in the 3rd minute.
The first goal of the final came when Slimani got on the end of a Christian Fuchs cross with a header to put Leicester ahead in the 12th minute.
Salah however equalised for Liverpool in the first half with a close range header.
Goirginio Wijnaldum went close to scoring but his low shot went inches away from target but it was Coutinho who showed why Barcelona reportedly wanted him desperately with a fantastic strike at the edge of the Leicester box to make it 2-1 for the Reds going into the break.
Daniel Sturridge set up a goal scoring chance for Salah at the hour mark after going past two close markers but the Egyptian’s shot after a chest control of the ball was cleared.
Ten minutes after Ndidi was brought onto the pitch by the Foxes, Solanke came on in the 65th minute in place of Wijnaldum for Liverpool while at the same time Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare replaced Riyad Mahrez with Musa.
