Sammy Ameobi has escaped the axe at Newcastle United after he was named among the players retained by the club for their campaign in the Championship next season, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Magpies were relegated from the English Premier League last season.
The Nigerian-born forward will be making a return to the club where he will play under Spanish coach, Rafa Benitez, after spending last season on loan with Cardiff City.
Overall he made 36 appearances for Cardiff, starting only 11 games, as they fell short of a play-off place.
His only goal of the loan spell came in his third game for the Bluebirds against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
He previously played at Middlesbrough in 2013 where he also scored once.
