Sammy Ameobi Hopes To Make Super Eagles World Cup Squad

By Adeboye Amosu:
Bolton Wanderers forward Sammy Ameobi hopes  e will get the chance to represent Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia following a run of impressive showings for the second-tier English club, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ameobi has been in good form since returning from a knee injury sustained in pre-season and has scored three goals from his 19 starts in the English Championship.
Sammy’s elder brother Shola was part of Nigeria’s squad to the last World Cup in Brazil.
The 25-year-old Sammy pledged his allegiance to Nigeria in 2014 despite previously representing England at the U-21 level and he hopes to follow his elder brother’s footsteps.
“I want to solely represent Nigeria. Hopefully that opportunity will come but it will only possibly happen if I play well on a weekly basis, which is what I am aiming to do here at Bolton Wanderers,” Ameobi told Boltonnews.co.uk.
“With it being a World Cup year who knows what could happen? It would be great to be a part of that, but there’s a lot of hard work ahead for me if that’s even possible.
“It isn’t easy breaking into the international team. Shola did it and I can only hope to follow in his footsteps.”

  • Nonsense, Sola Ameobi bought his way into the SE Brazil 2014, robbed players like Sunday NBA, Ike Uche, Brown Ideye, of their opportunity to reap what they laboured for.

Times are different, Rohr is not Keshi.
We say say no to bribe.

    SE by merit only.

  • I observe we need left footed players from the flanks and if he can prove himself a genuine contender, he may be considered.

  • @Cj explain more about Sola Amoebi “bought his way” into the Eagles Brazil 2014 team. I did not know that. I guess many Nigerians don’t know that and they will be interested to know the details. Meanwhile if it is just a figment of your imagination, you owe Sola Amoebi and the late Steven Keshi’s family some apology. Be a real man and apologize if you have no proof. Meanwhile Sammy Amoebi who has being doing well with Bolton Wanderers is showing interest to represent his country. I don’t see anything wrong with that. If the coach sees something in him that can better the team, you have no say in the matter. We are frantically searching the globe for a World Class goalkeeper. If Sammy is a goalkeeper, what would you say? No? I don’t think so. Perhap you will be at the head of those crawling on their knees begging, suggesting, advising, persuading Sammy Amoebi to please na, come play for your father land. Because he is not a goalkeeper, you own this country more than Sola and Sammy Amoebi. Abi? As I see it all hands should be in deck to see the Russian project to a successful end. If Sammy or anyother oversea born Nigerian can contribute to this success, all are welcomed. Many Nigerians are refusing to come play(Tammy etc) for some not too convincing reasons, but those who want to should work their way into the team. We appreciate them. What about that @Cj?

My conclusion was “SE by merit”
My opinion is that Sola Ameobi, Gariel Ruben, and Uchebo could not have by any stretch of merit been better than Sunday Kha, Brown Ideye and Ike uche, neither were they part of the 2013 AFCON wining team nor played in any of the qualifying matches.
Sola was clueless, so was Gabriel Ruben as at the world cup. How many hour did Sola play for New Castle United in 2013 / 2014 season and how many goals did he score compared to Ike If he’s 16 goals in La Liga the same season. Come on bro.
I don’t mean to disrespect The Boss, Steven Okechukwu Keshi, I hold him in highest regard, very accomplished SE indeed both as a player and as a coach. RIP Keshi.
Sammy is more than welcome to the party, but let it be on merit.

Sola Ameobi should go and sit down, he has nothing to offer super eagles

Instead of Samuel ameobi I would rather go for sheyi ojo of Fulham.
That guy is better than ameobi ten times.
Sheyi ojo would gladly wanna go to the world cup with the Nigerian super eagles.

  • @Cj, you are a man!!! You have subtly apologized and it is accepted. Have fun.
