Sammy Ameobi Promises More Goals For Newcastle

Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi tells BBC Newcastle that scoring his first Premier League goal, in his 34th game, is the first step in emerging from the shadow of his elder brother.

Sammy has had a bittersweet stint with the Magpies and last was dogged with injuries but has regained fitness and is expected to play in Wednesday’s Capital One Cup 4th Round of the game against Premier League champions Manchester City.

Shola left St James’ Park in the summer after 14 years and 79 goals, and his 22-year-old sibling finally opening his Magpies league account by equalising nine seconds into the second-half of their 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

“It was great scoring the goal. I’m excited and hopefully, I will do as much as my brother did for the club,” Sammy said.

The younger Ameobi has pledged his international future to Nigeria, to follow the foot steps of his older brother who represented the Super Eagles at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
