Samuel: CSKA Moscow Good Enough For UCL Group Stage

By David Meshioye:

CSKA Moscow’s Nigerian striker Aaron Samuel has promised that the UEFA Champions League return leg against Young Boys of Switzerland will not be taken lightly by the Russian club.

In a chat with CompletesportsSaturday, the former Guanzghou Evergrande striker maintained that CSKA are not carried away by their 1-0 away win, but would give it their best shot when Young Boys come visiting next week.

He said paramount before the club now would be to qualify for UEFA Champions’ League group stage and prove doubters wrong that the Russian Premier League can have good representatives in the money spinning competition.

“We are not carried away by that win, rather we are determined to build on our first-leg win and seal our qualification at home,“ Samuel told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“They’re a very good side and that calls for caution on our side. I am happy we won but what really matters now is to win well at home against Young Boys and prove that we are ready to rub shoulders with some of Europe’s best clubs.”

Young Boys conceded an own goal in the first leg to hand CSKA Moscow a big advantage ahead of the return leg in Moscow.

Samuel, who regularly got into the Super Eagles squad under the late Stephen Keshi, then showered encomiums on ccurrent Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr for his good job with the national team, while expressing confidence in the ability of the German-born handler to lead Nigeria to the Russia 2018 World Cup at the expense of Cameroun, Zambia and Algeria.
