Samuel: I Knew I Was Going To Score

Guangzhou R&F striker Aaron Samuel has said that he was thrilled to find the back of the net in an African Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Congo on Saturday.

The ex-Sarpsborg 08 man also shed light on the motivational talk from manager Stephen Keshi before he replaced Emmanuel Emenike in the 70th minute.

The 20-year-old curled in a shot in the 90th minute which was enough to secure all three
points for the defending champions, with Ikechukwu Uche opening scoring from the penalty spot earlier.

”I knew I was going to score because I never doubted my qualities. I’m happy to score again. The coach (Stephen Keshi) had a talk with me before I entered the pitch.

”He advised me to be focused and help the team defensively and offensively. He told me to be relaxed and do what I know how to do best,” said Aaron Samuel to SL10.

Samuel has dedicated his second international goal to everyone that believed in his abilities from the word go, and his mother, whom he has a special relationship with.

”I have dedicated this goal to my mother and to those who know me, who know what I can do, and backed me from the beginning,” he concluded.

Aaron Samuel is Nigeria’s joint top scorer in African Cup of Nations qualifying alongside
CSKA Moscow’s Ahmed Musa, who bagged a braceagainst Sudan last month.

Nigerians love to criticize anything under the Sun. One moment we are claiming to have players/talent all over the world. The next, we are condemning a couch for using home-based players and not professionals from the Premier League. During the last game against the Red Devils of Congo, I heard many complain that our couch refused to use known players but only those he liked and could get bribes from, from as lowly afield as China. As it turned out, it was that Super sub from the “Lowly” Chinese League, that gave us the winning, and real goal. The goal from a popular, and heavily demanded super striker, by Nigerians, could only manage the “Cheap” penalty box. Meanwhile, the “No-name” super sub, is 2nd highest goal scorer with. Ahmed Musa, from another “Lowly” Russian League. Na WA for nija!

  • I really appreciate the effort of our players during congo versus nigeria match. But only one or two things I notice in that team is that our mild fielders were creating much problem to the defe nders, take a good look at the way john obi mikel played at first half! Mikel was afraid to hold ball and attack. If mikel can attack very well I believe onazi is there to cover for him. Besides, onazi himself do not understand good relationship at the mild field with mikel as it was during 2013afcon. When mikel was trying to attack in the second half you can noticed that we got to score and perform more.. if steven kechi beleieves that mikel is the pillar of that team he need to talk to him very we’ll to hold ball and create space for his striker to score goals.. I will advice steven kechi to invite ihanacho to the eagles squad to the natoins cup if we qualified! If he believes he can’t seat mikel at the bench he should adopt jose morinho formation to the eagle squad. Of which mikel play along side ramires at the heart of deffence and pushing ball forward. Mikel caan play alongside onazi at the block 4 and offensively while ihanacho should play in front of them like oscar or mata does… Mikel and onazi will be tackle the opponent while ihanacho will be creating space and make the final pass for the striker and he can even score if the chance comes his way.. Its the mikel and onazi that will be guiding him[ihanacho] and build his confidence.. We can also win a lot of free kick and penalties through him, because the opponent will be trying to mack him down and he have skills and trick to make them think mad… I think this will help us. Lukman haruna should come back as a replacement for ihanacho if there is time for substitute… azeez will be there for sub if there is anyone to sub out of mikel and onazi.. Oshaniwa should be the first choice, cause echijile is too overlapping. Pls and pls in case of ihanacho, don’t forget pelle was 17 when he won wolrd cup trophy, neymar was 17 when he was invited to the national team of brazil, thieo walcot was 17 when he was invited to england for world cup. Don’t forget oxlade chambaline was 16 years when played for arsenal at champions league against beryan munich. If we fail to develop our youth players we don’t have anything to gain in the future… We need yahaya that played with ihanacho in un17 world cup in super eagle.. In the the 4-3-3 or 442 formation ihanacho can play with mikel and onazi if kechi can’t play morinoh formation. Thanks, good job mr kechi.. I wish the eagles best of luck..
