Portugal and Bayern Munich's Renato Sanches has beaten Super Eagles duo Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho to the 2016 European Golden Boy Award.
Sanches was selected ahead of other nominees following a vote by journalists from 30 newspapers across Europe to name the best player in 2016.
The former Benfica star is to be handed a trophy at a ceremony that will hold in Monte Carlo, France.
Other players who were in the running for the award included Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspurs), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Leroy Sane (Manchester City), Ousmane Dembele (Borussia Dortmund), Moussa Dembele (Celtic), Marco Asensio (Real Madrid), Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich) amongst others.
Last year's award was won by France and Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.
Sanches was a member of the Portuguese side that won this year's European Championship in France.
The Golden Boy Award is given to a player under 21 years and playing in one of Europe's top tiers who is perceived to have been the most impressive during a calendar year.
