Sane Withdraws From Germany Squad For Peru Friendly

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has withdrawn from the Germany squad for Sunday’s friendly against Peru for private reasons.

The Manchester City winger was brought on as a late substitute when he replaced Marco Reus in the 83rd minute as Joachim Low’s men drew 0-0 with France in the UEFA Nations League opener on Thursday.

But he will miss the friendly against Peru on Sunday with permission from the coach.

“Sane has left the team hotel in Munich after consultation with national coach Joachim Low on Friday for private reasons,” the DFB tweeted on Friday.

Thursday’s appearance was Sane’s 11th for the national team and marked his return after missing out on a place in the World Cup squad.

The 22-year-old played a key role as City won the Premier League title last season, but his three appearances this season have come off the bench.

  • _Sane: From the highs of club football to the lows of international football_

What a tough time Leroy Sane is having. Firstly, he gets sensationally dropped from the Germany squad to the world cup, then he loses his place in Man City squad despite players like Raheem Sterling (who should be slowly eased back after a hectic world cup schedule) walking straight back into Man City’s main team with ease.

To then add insult to injury, his national team-mate – Toni Kroos of Real Madrid – was quoted recently as saying: “Leroy is a player who has everything you need to be world-class player but sometimes you have to tell him he has to perform better and improve a bit.

Maybe that’s why he didn’t make the team [for the World Cup]”: said Kroos.

What an insult from a fellow player!

Little wonder why the 22 year old pulled out of the upcoming game against Peru. Support is what Sane needs at this difficult moment to overcome these recent challenges.

I would suggest he keeps away from international football for a while to regain his confidence while focusing on his club career.

That is why some players think about international football and just come to the conclusion that it is not for them anymore – and then retire prematurely.

Think about it: this is a player that contributed to Man City’s dominant 2017/18 title winning season by making 50 appearances, scoring 14 goals and receiving the England PFA Young Player of the Year award – yet he was sensationally dropped from his country’s world cup squad!

Like I said earlier, I would suggest that the young man give international football a rest to focus on himself and his club career. Once he is back firing on all cylinders, Germany will come back calling.

  • Great analysis, Deo. That was a rude comment from Kroos. ObviouslySane isn’t happy. That wasn’t the best way to welcome him back to the fold. Ozil has hung his boot out of frustration from fans and the press. Germany could be on a nosedive like Bulgaria was a few years ago. I hope they don’t get relegated soon from Group A in Uefa Nations League.

the truth hurts isn’t it. le roy sane is nowhere near the level the british press have made it to seem. he is nothing but a mediocre player albeit with potentials of becoming a world class player. rather than get angry he should take the opinion of kroos who merely echoed what his club manager guardiola said some weeks back. no good player can be dropped for whatever reasons. only mediocres weep around this lies they are not pplaying because their managers dont love them
