Semi Ajayi Relishes Prospect Of Making Eagles Debut Vs Seychelles

Rotterham United defender, Semi Ajayi, says he is enjoying life with the Super Eagles after arriving the team’s camp in Victoria, and a chance of making his senior debut for Nigeria against Seychelles, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Ajayi, a former youth international is savouring the prospect of being involved in Saturday’s clash against Seychelles.

“Day One was mainly a recovery day from all of the travelling, but it has already been a really good experience so far,” he told Rotherham United’s website, themillers.co.uk

“We went out and stretched our legs with a light stroll and some head tennis on the beach.

“After that it was a case of going back for a gym session which mainly consisted of stretching.

“Today we trained in the morning and again, went back in the afternoon for some more work in the gym.

He added: “I’m just delighted to be out here because it’s such an honour to be called-up to represent your country.

“It will be a different experience and one that can only make me better as a player, so I’m already looking forward to the weekend.

“I think we’ll step up preparations in training again tomorrow and then it will be match preparation on Friday, so hopefully I can impress and be involved in the game.”

  • _Who is Semi Ajayi?_

Semi Ajayi is nothing but a joke; yes a joke.

Don’t take it from me, take it from his manager Paul Warne at Rotherham FC who was quoted just over a week ago on http://www.thestar.co.uk as saying :”Semi was a joke. He could play anywhere for me.

He could play up front, on the wing or full-back – I know you might think I’m a bit crazy.”

This came after his manager needed manpower in defensive midfield and had to take a gamble to draft Semi – a center defender – to that position.

The London-born former Nigeria U-21 player’s versatility impressed his manager so much that he said :”I could do with signing a few more Semi Ajayis.

He is everywhere for me at the moment. I like him there (defensive midfield), he looks more confident and he does cover the ground for us and gives us protective cover.”

It is indeed a joke that we have this kind of player in the Super Eagles at this moment.

Once described in his Arsenal days as”adept at making interceptions; massive in the air and comfortable on the ball”; should this 24 year old adapt himself to the challenges of international football ( which are: travel time away from family, tedious weather conditions, harsh critisms from fans, playing in some appalling pitches against physical opponents and reduced injury-recovery times), then we have a true treasure in our midst for seasons to come.

    Welcome Semi, we love you.

Nice write up @Deo. Semi Ajayi is just the Alternative to Ndidi that we’ve been looking for. Am sure most of us would ageee that we don’t have a replacement for Wilfred Ndidi in that No.4 position except for Onazi(who has now passed his prime for me o) but with the addition of Semi Ajayi(another young talent), The future of our defensive midfield department is Secured

@deo, interesting piece of article. Cheers

  • Thanks guys….

  • There are so many young guys out there that would love to play for nigeria but were’nt invited, the football federation should try and invite those willing to play for nigeria and are playing well for thier respective clubs, a player like Groeneveld Danjuma of brugge in belgium is a massive talent.
Awoniyi did alerted the so called fools in the NFA about this guy when they both played together at NEC but nothing was done rather they fight among themselves.
