Senegal Edge Poland, Claim Africa’s First Russia 2018 Win

Senegal claimed Africa’s first win at this summer’s FIFA World Cup following their impressive 2-1 win against Poland in Group H on Tuesday.
It was a winning return for the Senegalese who also won their first game at their debut at the 2002 edition when they stunned champions  France 1-0.
Senegal took the lead in the 37th minute from an own goal by Thiago Cionek off Idrissa Gana Gueye’s low shot from the edge of Poland’s box.
In the 60th minute Mbaye Niang made it 2-0 as he pounced on a poor back pass from Grzegorz Krychowiak, went past Wojciech Szczesny who came rushing out of his post before slotting the ball into an empty net.
Poland got a lifeline in the 86th minute  as Krychowiak headed in a free-kick to make for a nervy end to the game.
Senegal will face Japan in their next game against on June 24 while Poland will hope to bounce back when they take on Colombia also on June 24.
In the group’s first game played on Tuesday Japan edged 10-man Colombia by a similar 2-1 scoreline.
