Shakespeare: Iheanacho Close To Full Fitness, Set For United Clash

By James Agberebi:

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has stated that Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is getting back to full fitness after being sidelined with injury.

Iheanacho has not featured in Leicester’s last two games (Brighton in the league and Sheffield United in the League Cup) after suffering a toe injury.

His last and only appearance for the Foxes was in the Premier League’s opening game against Arsenal when he came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute.

Giving fitness updates of his players in Thursday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s away game against Manchester United, Shakespeare stated that they are taking it easy with Iheanacho so as not to aggravate his injury.

“Wes (Morgan) will be involved. He has trained the last couple of days. Hopefully we won’t get an adverse reaction,” Shakespeare said.

“Iheanacho is another one who has trained. We have to be mindful about how far we push him. Gradually, he is getting back to fitness.

“Matty (James) hasn’t missed a day of training. Players need the opportunity and Matty has taken that with both hands.”

Leicester are currently ninth in the league table on three points after two rounds of league games.

Iheanacho is part of the Super Eagles 23-man squad released by Gernot Rohr for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon in September 1 (first leg in Uyo) and September 4 (second leg in Yaounde).
