Nigerian sports minister Tammy Danagogo has said he was shocked to learn that coach Stephen Keshi has been fired.
“I will say I am shocked at hearing the news,” said the minister, who has publicly supported the coach and facilitated his coming back to handle the Eagles without a contract.
“When they came back from Sudan and told me what they want to do, I told them they would be held responsible for whatever decision they are taking.
“Because if decisions were taken by organs then those organs should be able to stand up to whatever that comes out from such decisions.”
Danagogo said it was the NFF who could fire the coach.
“A lot of Nigerians appreciate Keshi for what he has done. But I think the ultimate decision of having him on the saddle lies with the NFF,” he said.
“If they insist that the only way they could achieve results is by having him step aside, well I hope that they succeed in bringing in new people who would change the dwindling fortunes in our football.”
