–National U-23 Eagles coach says there won’t be clash in assignment
National U-23 Eagles coach Samson Siasia has told Complete Sports that he is not foreseeing any clash with the nation’s U-20 team over the invitation of Manchester City young star Kelechi Iheanacho as he confirmed that the former Golden Eaglets star’s invitation has been sent since Monday.
Iheanacho who was part of the last Golden Eaglets team that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup has been invited by the National U-23 Eagles coach ahead of next year’s Olympic qualifiers just as coach Manu Garba is looking forward to having him for the 2015 African Youth Championship.
“I am not foreseeing any problem with the Flying Eagles coach over Iheanacho, the two tournaments are not holding at the same time, if he is available for us fine and if he is available for the U-20 team fine but I must confirm to you that his invitation has been sent and we are expecting to hear from him,” says Siasia.
“We are going to sit down and plan a way that these young players will not be over used but as a coach, I also know that nothing stops a player like Iheanacho from playing for both teams, he can only get better with such arrangement but when we get to that level, we will know how to go about it.
Siasia who is presently in Abuja sweating it out with the foreign based players invited for screening for the U-23 Eagles has also promised that only the best will be good for Nigeria and he will try to raise a formidable team.
“We are going to do our best, already, invitation has been sent to the players and we are expecting that they will be available for the team when they are needed. We have seen some quality players in the domestic whom we are still going to work on but so far, I can tell you that screening of these players has not been easy at all.
