—Nigeria U-23s Coach Denies Inviting Norway-Based Player
Samson Siasia has given all invited home-based members of the Flying Eagles team that went to New Zealand till Friday to report to the team's camp or forget about the invitation.
The players are Taiwo Awoniyi, Musa Muhammed, Dele Alampasu and Saviour Godwin.
The Nigeria U-23s coach told the Nigeria Football Federation website that he was displeased with the attitude of the players, after giving them time off and instructing them to report to camp on Monday.
"No player can hold the nation to ransom," Siasia said in an NFF press release. "This attitude of theirs is unprofessional. When the players arrived from the U-20 World Cup, they called me to beg for a grace period to rest a little, which I did, and they promised to report after one week. It is now more than one week and none of them is around."
Siasia has also denied reports in the media that he invited a Norway-based defender, Sola Akinyemi, ahead of the team's U-23 Championship qualifier against Congo billed for Port Harcourt on July 19.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles and Sharks FC defender Chima Akas, Semiu Liadi alongside the overseas-based trio of Umar Aminu, Shehu Abdullahi and Ikechukwu Okorie have all reported to camp, cutting short their break.
