Chief Coach of national Under-23 team Samson is worried that the duo of Alex Iwobi of Arsenal and Kelechi Iheanacho of Manchester City may not be released by their clubs to make Nigeria's squad for the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Speaking with the media in Abuja, Siasia said that Arsenal have told Nigeria that they will not release Iwobi for the Olympics because they want the young man to be part of their pre-season programme.
However, Siasia he is hoping that Iwobi's father will be able to convince Arsene Wenger to allow the kid sensation to go to Rio.
"The chances of Iwobi going to the Olympics depends how well his father is able to make Arsene Wenger to have a change of mind. Alex is a young man who will benefit much from playing against big stars like Neymer. He would be a great asset for us at the games
"Manchester City are not forthcoming regarding the release of Kelechi Iheanacho for the Rio Olympic Games. They are yet to respond to letter asking for his release and Kelechi is not helping matters with his attitude. I need him and Iwobi, but if they are not released to us, we manage what we have," Siasia stated.
The coach who led Nigeria to a silver medal feat at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 is also waiting for confirmation from Odion Ighalo on his availability as one of the overage players Siasia picked for the Games. Watford FC, according to Siasia, have yet to clear Ighalo for the Games.
