–Ex-int’l tells Eagles star he has no future at Stamford Bridge
By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
Super Eagles midfielder, Mikel Obi has been advised to save his career by quitting his English Premier League side Chelsea.
This advise came from his former coach in the national team, Samson Siasia in an interview with Complete Sports in Abuja.
Siasia insists that Mikel no longer has a future in Chelsea, urging him to quit now in order to protect his career.
He said that Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has shown Mikel last season that he is not in his plans by playing him sparringly adding that Mourinho’s recruitment for the 2014/2015 English Premier League season which kicks off next weekend has further and clearly pushed Mikel down the pecking order in the team’s midfield duty.
“I think Mikel should look elsewhere to pursue his future because Mourinho may just use him only as squad member and not a regular player.
“He should be open for other Premier League clubs where he would get regular game time. Or better still, go to other leagues in Europe.
“Mikel after eight years at Chelsea, should rank as, may be, the third or fourth longest serving player there behind john Terry and Petr Cech and do not need to be told that he needed a new challenge to get his career back on track”, Siasia stated.
Asked about Mikel’s world cup performance, Siasia noted that Mikel, like a couple of other players on whose shoulders Nigerians put their hope did not have good outing in Brazil, noting that if Emmanuel Emenike, Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel had played to their optimal level, the Eagles should have progressed further.
