Manchester City continued their dominance in the English Premier League with a comfortable 2-0 win against their hosts Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Monday night.
Spanish midfielder David Silva scored both goals for the Citizens in the encounter.
There were no serious attempts from either side in the opening nine minutes of the match with the visitors dealing with the threats of City’s strikers perfectly.
However, Manchester City took the lead from the first meaningful attacking move of the game in the 12th minute.
Gabriel Jesus threaded the ball out wide for Raheem Sterling, who in turn looked up and spotted Silva who swept the ball past Jack Butland.
Despite the visitors’ total dominance of the game, Stoke City came close to finding an equaliser in the 22nd minute.
Xherdan Shaqiri got the better of makeshift left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko and spotted Badou Ndiaye on the edge of the box but his shot took a deflection and went wide off the post.
Pep Guardiola’s men’s second goal which arrived five minutes after the break was a near carbon copy of the first.
Silva exchanged passes with Jesus and then knocked the ball past an outrushing Butland.
With the win, City extended their lead at the top of the league table to 16 poi
