Simon Eager For Super Eagles Reunion; Expects Tough Poland, Serbia Friendlies

By Johnny Edward:

Nigeria winger Moses Simon is looking forward to reuniting with the Super Eagles squad on Monday ahead of their international friendlies against Poland and Serbia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Simon, a regular starter for the Super Eagles, missed the team’s last two games against Algeria in a 2018 World Cup qualifier and Argentina in an international friendly in Krasnodar but says he’s ready to battle for his place again.

“I missed the last two games and I can’t wait to join them in Wroclaw,” Simon told CSN.

“We will try to work as a team as usual to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.

“The games (against Poland and Serbia) are going to be tough and it will put us in good shape and I’m ready to fight for my place.

The 22-year old also added that Gent must be clinical and tactically alert if they are to dethrone Anderlecht to win the Belgian League title this season after they qualified for the play-offs 1.

Moses bounced back to full fitness since a knee injury kept him out of action for eight weeks and told CSN winning the league will make up for their tough campaign this season.

Gent, the 2014/15 Belgian league Champions finished fourth after defeating Genk 2-1 on the final day of the Belgian regular season.

“It’s going to be tough but to win the league we must take our chances and ensure we stay compact in defending.”

Gent will compete alongside Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Standard Liège, Genk and Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian Jupiler League play-offs.

Good to know u are back Simon, but, if I were Rohr, i wuld allow u more rest to regain ur fitness and invite Samuel Kalu instead because he is far ahead of u this season,,,,,,but because Rohr is stubborn, he wuld rather stick with his tired legs alone for the world cup instead of testing new players like, Kalu, Dessers, Dennis and Umar based on their current form, take for example, Victor Moses, Iwobi, Simon, Musa and Onazi are obviously out of form, while Ighalo has fired blank in the first two Chinese league matches this season,,,, I’m scared by the day as world cup draws closer because Nigerians are expressing too much optimism these days.

I totally disagree with u hope. The names u called that are not on form are all on form and they are playing for their various teams and let me tell u something, the World cup is too close for too many experiments please… Gernot Rohr has already said that he will release a list of 35 players from there it will be trimmed to 23 players. We don’t know the exact players that he will invite yet so please let us wait and see,. So far he is doing a wonderful job in the Super Eagles. Up Eagles!

  • My only problem with the two MOSES is that they hold onto the ball too long.
Our last 2 goals against Argentina were a 1-2 touch.
If Idowu trapped that ball instead of that one time shot, he would have missed the goal.
If Iheanacho held unto that ball instead of a quick pass, Iwobi would not have scored those goals.

We can not afford to play our usual Dutch/Brazilian game of holding unto the ball for too long.
Welcome back bro. And good luck
    Go SE! Go.

  • Nawa o! Nigerians! The few changes I see in Man City team of this season (that make them unbeatable) are Ederson GK, Walker, Bernardo Silva and Danilo. Mendy has been off since. Just few players added to their weaker team of last season and not that there’s no funds. But in Nigeria, for the fact that few players had been added to the team that only lost once out of 13-14 matches already..( Uzoho, Ebuehi(yet to play competitive game), Idowu, Joel Obi and so on….) Many Nigerians are still criticizing the coach. Imaging we use iwobi, ighalo, Moses today then simon, Iheanacho, Musa tomorrow then, later use Kali, dessers and bazee next tomorrow… Do u think there won’t be problem?

  • Nigerians are funny,so we should drop iwobi,Moses and call this players that are not tested I wonder for Nigerians.

Cyriel Dressers has an impressive statistics, no doubt. But not just him. I can drop names like Sadiq Umar, Samuel Kalu, Efe Ambrose and a host of others. The question is how many players is a coach allowed to register for WC? If the answer is 23, then some of these new boys have to wait because I’m not expecting a complete overhaul of a team that gave us the ticket. Rohr is an old war horse. He knows the implication of bringing too many faces into the team who are obviously new. It will destroy the existing chemistry and reduce the team to a bunch of individual stars. Let him do his job bcos only him knows what the needs and what it doesn’t.
