Sodje Tasks Keshi On Players’ Invitation

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Former Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje has admonished coach Stephen Keshi to use the second chance he may be offered by the Nigeria Football Federation to play the country’s best players in the national team games in 2015.

Keshi was reportedly handed a year contract by the NFF which ends in 2015 though the NFF top guns have now denied that Keshi’s extended stint for one year on a N7m salary monthly as the coach of the Super Eagles is cast in stone.

“Well since Keshi’s new contract has not been confirmed, we assume the NFF may go for another coach.

“Mr. President (Goodluck Jonathan) wanted him to return as coach of the national team after he was initially sacked, so perhaps he’s the most likely to get the job,” Sodje reasoned.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Charlton Athletic star who was last year involved in a match-fixing scandal, of which he has been declared innocent, said further:

“But if Keshi is indeed confirmed, my advise to him is that he invites the best of Nigerian players to the national team.

“I really did not support his sacking in the first place because those calling for his sack should look themselves in the mirror first,” Sodje told Completesportsnigeria.com

There has been calls for the removal of the one-time Strasbourg of France central defender but despite his failure to qualify Nigeria for the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, the Presidency endorsed the continued stay of the man affectionately called ‘The Big Boss’ in Nigerian football fraternity.

Meanwhile NFF’s director of communications Ademola Olajire has also rubbished reports of a new contract with Keshi, saying they will officially make it known whenever Keshi signs a new deal.

“People should have patience and let the NFF come out officially to speak about it. But as I speak with you, I really cannot say there is anything like that and if something like that were to come up, you will know,” he told Hot FM.
