Souness Blames Moses, Azpilicueta For Chelsea Defeat Vs Spurs

By James Agberebi:

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has attributed Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Wednesday to poor defending from Nigeria star Victor Moses and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Moses has been in superb form playing as a wing-back in Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 formation, but he and Spain defender Azpilicueta had a torrid time on Wednesday.

Chelsea's 13-match winning streak came to an end following Dele Alli's two headed goals off two brilliant crosses from Christian Eriksen.

The win lifted Spurs to third in the league table and seven points adrift of Chelsea who still remain top.

Souness, a former Scotland midfielder who captained and managed Liverpool, praised the two moments of brilliance from Eriksen and Alli which decided the game.

"It was very hard for the forward players. Both teams were getting men behind the ball," Souness told Sky Sports.

"The minute they lost it they got behind the ball, it was very difficult game for Costa and Harry Kane tonight. They didn't get a second on the ball.

"Even Dele Alli said it when he talked about playing with his head and not his feet. He couldn't get on the ball.

"Chelsea play so compact and are so well-organised when they're defending.

"The distances between the midfield players and the back four is minimal and it's tailor-made for someone arriving late, like Dele Alli did on two occasions.

"Christian Eriksen can deliver through an eye of a needle, he did it twice and Dele Alli read the situation perfectly twice.

"Twice he got between Victor Moses and Azpilicueta."
