South Africa 0-0 Nigeria: Poor Eagles held by Bafana Bafana

Nigeria’s Super Eagles were held by South Africa’s Bafana Bafana to a goalless draw on Wednesday night in their second game of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Stephen Keshi’s side lacked coordination and gave away slew of passes while their hosts who threatened a couple of times lacked the cutting edge in the Eagles vital area.

Both teams garnered a point on Wednesday night to have four points and a point respectively on the log, but are still behind Congo who defeated Sudan 2-0 earlier in the day and are now top of the Group A table with six points.

South Africa were the first to attack their Nigerian rivals but their call for a free kick within the first three minutes of the game were rebuffed by referee Joshua Bondo.

Nigerian players gave away the ball frequently and their only weapon to get something of the game seemed seemed to be from the pace of Ahmed Musa who was the only winning runner from the Eagles team.

The Nigerian players often found Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi but most of his passes were cut off by the marauding South African players who realise that he was clearly the creative hopes of the African champions.

Rangers FC of Enugu striker Ighodaro Osaguona had Nigeria’s first real chance at goal as his powerful header was cleared off the Bafana Bafana’s line in the 80th minute.

South Africa came up with a game plan to make the Eagles ran themselves to the ground. The Bafana Bafana stars know the Nigerian team don’t run with the ball.

Sone Aluko was also one of the players with a few attempts at goal but his shot in the 81st minute was very tame.

Nigeria’s next game is an away clash against Sudan on October 11th.

A draw is not the worst result in the world, but Nigeria’s problems still remain. The Super Eagles continues to play a hustle and bustle style of play unable to create chances against a Mediocre South African team whose Midfield is Marshalled by Dean Furman who plays at Doncaster Rovers(English Division 3).

Nigeria cannot beat any serious team if we continue to play this style of football. The Super Eagles simply did not do anything tangible enough to win this game vs South Africa.

Nigeria has one only 1 international game since the Super Eagles beat Ethiopia to qualify for the world Cup in November 2013. Nigeria lost to Congo, Argentina, France, United States, drew with Iran, Italy, Mexico, South africa, Greece, and Scotland.

To Win only once in 11 international games is poor. Enough of the cheap excuses

Mr. Benue, please tell them make them hear. I hop we all know that records and statistics don’t lie.

  • These guys are just overrated chicken. They won the last Cup of Nations because there was not good team around and with luck. We had to pair Ethiopia to qualify for world cup. I am 100% sure that they will not qualify for the next AFCON. It is certain that hey are going to draw or lose in Sudan.

My fellow Fans …..Relax Keshi is still rebuilding……..Hahahahaha…….I fear the worst, the character of the players on the field is so dull you can predict their next move……in an attacking move if the ball gets to Mikel that move becomes cold automatically…..the team organization is too poor, now the players dont play for each other….they are caught ball watching too much….they have all grown too lazy…..too bad….I weep now…..its only the players will and determination plus some luck that can make us qualify for 2015 AFCON.

  • Firstly mr saint palmer or palmy, you drank too much palmy to lost common sense abi? this was the same foolishness that led the egytians to end up in the red sea! When its time for wake-up calls, you better stay off reasonable contributions……NFF Sack Keshi now and allow an ex-player whom is MORE reasonable to handle the team before Mr ke-shit finally distroys the team…Who said they are all we have, implying that “we use what we have”? BULLSHIT! We still have great existing players like Obafemi martins, Ikechukwu Uche (Nigeria’s highest goal scoreer for last season in europe), strong-growing midfielder iheanacho, taye taiwo (still solid at left back) plus replacements for Efe ambrose whom must have eaten too much akpu just like emenike….ehn! Emenike won golden boot with just 4 goals and hes feeling like Ronaldo or Messi? Arrant nonsense!!! Has he checked is profile well to see that he hast score even half of what he scored to win a local golden boot since after the AFCON 2013? Guy u better go and sharp your cuttlasses and shovel to continue mounting your ridges for yam plants since you’ve only been up with AKPU!!! You want to feel like a golden player then your impact of goals should be counted in each game you play and stop deceiving yourself with those old-school trick-dribbling style that could not pass that southy 17yrs old defender……You fucked up! Now Mikel and igiebor remember that your time is running out, past glory will not save you from being axed from the team, two of you were the ones distributing the pills of laziness on the field of play……..while watching the both of you, i see beasts of no nation, not even a nigerian act, drive and creativity…..you played like you were hired to represent this country without being fully paid as bargained……no shots at goal from any of you??? DISGRACEFUL!!! OGHENEME-BIKOR! SHUUU!!! iheanacho can replace the two of you that i saw strolling and resting in most time of the game last night…..you sucked! oh yes you dont expect praises from such performance when you could recall the last score from our game with same side. no matter how they improve, we are the giants and can bend them at anytime of play…….Thumbs up to our GOALIE EJIDE! he played with all his heart!!! keshit must apologize to those players we ought to have in our team that could have turned around the system of our game…….. yeye pride!
