Southampton Keep Survival Hopes Alive Despite Late Everton Equaliser

Ten-man Southampton kept their hopes of staying up in the English Premier League alive on Saturday after playing out a 1-1 draw away at Everton.

Nathan Redmond scored in the 57th minute of the game to give Southampton the lead.

But Tom Davies ensured the hosts got a point from the game by scoring the equaliser in the final seconds of additional time.

The draw means the Saints are still without a win at Goodison Park in 20 years.

Southampton had won the reverse fixture 4-1 at the Saint Mary’s in November.

The result saw Southampton move out of the relegation zone on goal difference after Swansea lost 1-0 to Bournemouth.

Substitute Redmond headed in Cedric Soares’ cross to hand Southampton the lead.

With five minutes left to play Maya Yoshida was sent off for a second bookable offence for taking out Idrissa Gueye.

Davies deflected shot in the 96th minute beat Alex McCarthy in goal for Southampton.

Southampton will face Swansea in a crucial game next Tuesday.
