Spirited Showing! How Home Eagles Rated In ChAN 2018 Semi-Final Win Over Sudan

Completesportsnigeria. com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU appraises the performance of the home-based Super Eagles in their 1-0 semi-final win against Desert Hawks of Sudan at the 2018 African Nations championship.

IKECHUKWU EZENWA 5/10
The Enyimba goalkeeper was forced off due to injury early in the game. He can only be rated with that heart-stopping save he made which inflicted the leg injury that forced him out of the match. He was replaced with Dele Ajiboye.

OSAS OKORO 6/10
The right-back didn’t venture forward much in the game but performed his defensive task well.

KALU ORJI 7/10
Shrugged off injury to make the starting line-up and posted an impressive performance. He was no doubt Nigeria’s best defender in the game.

STEPHEN EZE 6/10
The tall centre- back gave the ball away a couple of times in the first half but made some vital blocks in the second half.

IKOUEWEN UDOH 7/10
The young defender improved on his performance from the previous game. He was full of running and was solid at the back.

IFEANYI IFEANYI 6/10
Played in an unfamiliar defensive midfield role and did his job before he was sent off for a rash tackle on a Sudanese opponent in the 58th minute.

RABIU ALI 5/10
Kept his place in the team despite a number uninspiring performances. He struggled to make an impact, and was later replaced by Ibrahim Mustapha in the 72nd minute.

AUSTINE OLADAPO 7/10
The Enyimba midfielder proved a handful for the Sudanese all through the game. Oladapo was no doubt one of Nigeria’s best performers in the game.

DAYO OJO 7/10
He was lively all through, directing things in the midfield and also helped the defence following Ifeanyi Ifeanyi red card.

ANTHONY OKPOTU 5/10
Provided the assist for Gabriel Okechukwu’s goal, otherwise it was another disappointing performance from the forward.

GABRIEL OKECHUKWU 8/10
He was handed his first start of the competition after scoring the winner in the quarter- final against Angola. He justified his selection by scoring the decisive goal and could have scored more in the game.

SUBSTITUTES

OLADELE AJIBOYE 8/10
A heroic display from the substitute goalkeeper who made a number of vital saves to help his side win the game.

ABDULLAHI MUSA 4/10
Musa helped ward off the threats of the Sudanese players in what was his maiden appearance in the competition after replacing Anthony Okpotu.

I wonder how Okpotu became highest goal scorer in Nigeria league last term ?..that guy is useless going forward , can’t even control the ball or make right passes!!..yes he help us to level up with Angola but that was after missing loads of scoring chances !!!..very lazy for my liking .The worst player on the pitch against Sudan .My take is that Ajiboye is good and deserve Eagles call up as well as Stephen Eze .The Eagles should note that winning the cup against Atlas lion’s won’t be an easy walk, they should not waste opportunities like they usually do in the final .Okpotu should come from the bench , he does not deserve first team shirt in this final .Gabriel is good but should calm down when given an opportunity to score , so much in a hurry , thereby missing his target .Eagles have done well so far , they are hard to beat and deserve great commendation,I wish them sucess by God grace in the final!

Okpotu has been given countless opportunity to redeem himself, but he continues to proof that he is not a good player. Poor ball control, poor passes, poor positioning and can’t even run. Aside him, d rest of d squad can be given a pass mark

Up eagles, despite a struggling chance we still get to d top,Our keepers( Ezenwa & Dele ) are good for d world cup but much confidence need to be build,Eze rocks while Okpotu sucks,Okechukwu(Gabriel) n Ibrahim should start d final while Mr Anthony (after barbing his “dada”) should watch d march from dressing room.

Still wondering why coach keeps playing this disappointing Okpotu of a guy. Is there no other striker to compliment Gabriel? Eagles may be poor at scoring goals but their resilient nature shows they’re unbeatable. Up eagles!

Anthony Okpotu is the Black Sheep that squad .He has nothing doing there as their has not been any prove of his inclusion in that team .A more prolific attacker should pair Gabriel in the attack against Morocco while Okpotu should learn Football from the bench .

Ajiboye is my Man of the Match. He and Ezenwa should be on the plane to Rusia

      I totally agree with you.
People forget that Ajiboye was NIGERIA goal keeper when Yemi Tella boys Conquered the world

Saving three(3) penalties in the final then

Nigeria is in the final against the host. They should keep the flag flying. A determined side we can lift the trophy.

Something is wrong with Anthony Okpotu, i think he is a skillful player, might be too ambitious to deliver or some form of psychological problems, coach should do something about him. He is a good player, i think he is worried about something

We are all wasting our time talking about okpotu being bad, does it mean the coach doesn’t see it? But personal interest will not allow him do d right think..I read about how poor dis so called okpotu was in previous matches n I decided to watch naija match yesterday n his performance justifies d contructive criticisms..don’t be surprised,in d final u will see okpotu starting n Gabriel being on the bench..

That goalkeeper Ajiboye was goo,he should be given more exposure,he has good reflexes,he reminded me of the early days of Enyeama, but Nigeria politics will not allow d right talent to be considered..next thing u will see is Akpeyi heading to Russia instead of him and the reason they will give will b Akpeyi did well in training than Ajiboye n will forget that training spectators n the real match spectators are two different atmosphere..

Opotu Is A Good Player Though He Has Disappointed Nigerian Fans…He Is Selfish…He Should Know That A Good Striker Is A Person Who Can Score At The Same Time Assist Others To Score Goals…He Wanted The Golden Boot Of The Tournament..But Rather He Should Pursue COLLECTIVE GLORY !

We have 3 very promising keepers in Ajiboye, Eheoghu(who replaced Akpeyi against Argentina) and Ezenwa. All in my opinion can hold their own for Nigeria.
Eheoghu – Has European football experience and calm
Ezenwa- Has World Cup qualifier + Chan exposure, has brilliant reflex.
Ajiboye – Has under 17 World Cup medal and proved himself even during penalty shoot out against Spain + He is older, calm and now in Chan.
So what exposure are we expecting from these keepers that they can not get during warm up to Russia?
Please we do not need Eyeama and Akpeyo these 3 guys should be well prepared for the tournament

Can’t blame anyone for the Okpotu criticism.Maybe the coaches see what we don’t see.Reminds one of Jimoh Balogun(TYSON),of the ’89 Flying Eagles. That’s Nigeria for you, only if you don’t know how to find your way.Well, wishing them the best in the final.I know they’ve come this far because of ROHRS input.Morroco won’t be easy.
