By Johnny Edward: Standard Liege have condemned the racial abuse and xenophobic attack from Kortrijk fans on Nigerian midfield Uche Agbo after he was sent off in Standard Liege’s 2-1 defeat to Kortrijk in a Belgian Pro League game on Wednesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Agbo was sent off in his 21st league start for Standard Liege and while he walked off the pitch in the 42nd minute after his dismissal, the Nigerian international was shelled with beer cups by Kortrijk fans according to a report on the official website of Standard Liege.
“Standard de Liège strongly condemns the attitude of those individuals whose intolerable behaviour is totally contrary to the values defended by our club and the Jupiler Pro League,” a statement on the official website of Standard de Liège reads.
“Our club (Standard de Liège) intends to question the governing bodies so that the community, racist and xenophobic songs are definitely banned from our stadiums.
“Indeed, such actions have no place anywhere, as well in our competition as anywhere else.”
