Stoke Chairman, Goalie: Moses Is Not a Cheat

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic have hit back at critics’ scathing ‘cheating’ claims against Victor Moses.

Critics led by Swansea boss,Gary Monk said Moses should be ‘ashamed of himself’ after his weak tumble under minimal pressure from Angel Rangel won a penalty in Stoke’s 2-1 win over Swansea on Sunday.

Coates says he is going to war with the BBC over the Moses ‘cheat’ storm.

The multi-millionaire Potters’ chief is raging over pundit John Hartson’s comments on Match of the Day Two and will be making an official complaint.

Coates slammed former Wales international Hartson for his views on Stoke’s controversial penalty in the 2-1 win over Swansea.

Swansea-born Hartson slated Moses for the way he went down to win a penalty describing it as a ‘terrible dive’ and accusing the player of ‘a total lack of professionalism.”
It left Coates incensed.

And he said he now plans to officially complain to the BBC about their coverage of the incident.
Coates said: “I’ve never heard a more one-sided view from a pundit and we are right to complain about it.

“Hartson was a disgrace. He’s a big fan of Swansea and their manager and it showed.”
Begovic on his part defended his team-mate, saying: ‘There were a couple of decisions earlier in the season when Victor was brought down in the box and we didn’t get anything, so sometimes these things turn in your favour. I’m not an expert on travelling at high
speed and going into the box, but I don’t think it takes a lot to push someone off balance.

‘Maybe it was a little bit of a soft penalty but there was contact, some shirt pulling, and whenever you do that in the box you put yourself at risk of getting a decision against you.

‘I’m sure Swansea are angry but some of the reaction has been over the top.’

Monk had torn into Moses after the first-half incident allowed Stoke to equalise. He said after the game: ‘He should be ashamed of himself for diving like that.

‘I would not be able to go home to my family and show my face, for me it is a disgrace. He should be punished heavily for that. If my player had done that he would not play in the next game.’
