The former Valencia player who now plays for Real Salt Lake in the MLS said he decided to cut short his holiday in Nigeria and travel to Spain where he could train with a club side to keep fit.
According to him, training in Spain will also help him to be in top shape and give his best when the season resumes.
“I have to return quickly and start training before our league resumes, as a footballer, you need to be fit so that you can give your best. I called some of my coaches in Spain and they said I could come over to train with them,”,the former Alanyaspor of Turkey midfielder told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Soon, our league will resume and like I have done in my previous clubs, I want to go back better and that is why I have chosen to train personally ahead of the season.”
Stephen who is also eyeing a place in coach Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles squad to the next summer’s World Cup in Russia said he is working hard to get a recall to the senior national team while not ruling out the possibility of returning to Europe to continue his professional career in the nearest future.
“I am impressed with what the Super Eagles did last year, mostly qualifying for the World Cup and a s a Nigerian, I want to work hard to see if I could get a recall to the team for the World Cup,” he added.
Stephen returned to Europe last weekend.
