Players of Glo Premier League table toppers, Sunshine Stars of Akure smiled to the bank Friday after the chairman of the club, Hon. Akin Akinbobola fulfilled his financial pledge to them, reports Completesportsnigeria.com
Akinbobola had promised to reward the players with N100,000.00 each if they win three consecutive matches.
The club won two straight games and drew the third away to Nasarawa United.
It was understood that even though the team fell short of the maximum nine points target by two points, Akinbobola felt it was a good result and opted to fulfill his pledge.
"A win at Nasarawa United would have meant the team matched the three-wins target, but a draw isn't a bad result either," offers Wahab Bankole, spokesman of the club.
"Besides, after the draw at Nasarawa United, the club came back home to defeat Kwara United which helped them remain top on the table before the break.
"Because of that achievement, the chairman was happy and decided to fulfill his promise.
The money was given out on Friday (yesterday) morning," he added.
The money was disbursed to the players on Friday amidst excitement amongst the receipients.
